Becky (httpsbeckylindrooswordpresscom) | 1217 comments Welcome to the best little history club on the net, Pieter! Get comfy and enjoy!

message 4854: by Mark (new)

Mark Mortensen Welcome Pieter! The New Haven, CT area is certainly a good base for journalism and exploring your interests in all aspects of history including maritime. I find your local area fascinating around the early 20th Century when crew was the popular collegiate sport. Some Harvard alumni would anchor off shore with 70 foot yachts to party and enjoy the regatta competition against Yale.

message 4855: by Pieter (new)

Pieter | 6 comments That's funny, thanks Mark. I'm going to the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club (aka, "the yic-yic") in two weeks for some sailing lessons. It's great to be back in New England (I grew up here) after some time in DC and Colorado.

Hi Pieter, welcome to the group.

Donna (drspoon) Hello,
I'm Donna from Pennsylvania. I'm a former educator, now retired, thus allowing me to pursue my interests which include travel (a goal is to visit every U.S. presidential museum/library), cooking (I'm trying to achieve the perfect homemade pizza, among other things) and Bridge. But my absolute passion is reading - mainly history and historical fiction. I've just begun to scratch the surface of the threads found here, but looking forward to being part of this group.

message 4860: by Becky (new)

Becky (httpsbeckylindrooswordpresscom) | 1217 comments Hi Donna! Welcome to the best little international history book club on the net! :-) Congratulations on your retirement! We've got great books, discussions and people here so pull up a chair and get comfy.

For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post . Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how a book you mention should look:

Catherine the Great Portrait of a Woman by Robert K. Massie by Robert K. Massie Robert K. Massie

Jill H. (bucs1960) Welcome, Donna. You have found the place for the history lover I come from a Bridge playing family so I know the passion it can invoke!!! I'll also be interested to learn if you ever find the recipe for the perfect homemade pizza.
Please jump right into the discussions that are of interest to you....we welcome your participation.

Alisa (mstaz) Donna, welcome to the group we are glad you found us. My view of the perfect pizza is that it all starts with the perfect crust, and from there you are golden. Fun pursuit, keep us posted on your progress!

Welcome Donna. Definitely let us know when you perfect that recipe for pizza. Maybe Bentley can set up a recipe section. ;-)

Mark Mortensen Welcome Donna, to the global History Club. You have a lot of great interests to pursue. I grew up playing family rubber bridge at an early age. While in college I read all of Goren’s Bridge and during my final year of college I joined the duplicate bridge club, collecting points.

Rozzer I've seen in recent newspapers articles about the dates of Spanish cave paintings having been pushed back to 40,000 B.C. or so. Can anyone suggest some new non-fiction on that era? Or is this the wrong thread to ask about it?

I've looked over Andre's helpful welcome posts with the book formatting, so I will do my best to blend in right away with the discussions :). Can't wait to start conversing with all of you!
