Sara Nowlin-Edens (sara1955) | 17 comments Hi all. I'm fairly new to the goodreads family, although I joined a couple of years ago. I've been doing the "university" thing recently and am now taking a small break before completing a final year then (hopefully) moving on to the MA stage. History is my major (no surprise there!) and am beginning to concentrate on the women of WWII. My concentration is the home life, the war life, and not only the Allies. I find the changing role fascinating, then going back to the kitchen after it was done. I'll practice using the citation method you have here, and hope I can successfully figure it out :) Thanks!!!

message 4560: by Bea (new)

Bea | 1830 comments Welcome, Sara, I love that home front history stuff no matter what the era! I think you can have fun here. So, on to the citation method ...

For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post itself.

Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book itself and/or author and increases the readability of your posts. This is how a cited book should look:

No ordinary time Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt the home front in World War II by Doris Kearns Goodwin by Doris Kearns Goodwin Doris Kearns Goodwin

Take a moment to read our guidelines:

Thanks Bea for mentioning "No Ordinary Time." A like-minded friend had already recommended it to me. Despite my current plunge into 18th and 19th Virginia history, my life-long love is American Social/Cultural History during the 1930s and 40s. Goodwin's book is now on my TBR list. I love reading history with a particular emphasis on military history. I love WWII and ancient history, especially Roman history, Late Antiquity and the early Medieval period. As a lawyer, I also find legal histories interesting.

I'm over forty but not quite, well I don't know what comes after forty but whatever it is, I'm not there. I'm married for over 23 years; two great kids and a wonderful wife.

Look forward to joining the discussions here.

Hi Adrian and welcome to the History Book Club.

I understand the age thing...remember that age is just a state of mind.

Raleigh is a great area and you must be having lovely weather right now. We are delighted to have folks join us who are into military history and we hope that you will add to those threads.

We are going to start another book which focuses on World War II and FDR which I believe you would love so we do hope you get involved (Roosevelt's Centurions by Joseph E, Persico).

There are many lawyers here in this group. I think it is the love of history that so many of these professionals possess which brings them together here.

We are also reading and discussing Caesar's Women which may be of interest to you since you obviously like to read about Roman History.

So just jump in and enjoy, read our rules and guidelines, learn and practice how we do citations and you should be good to go. Enjoy yourself.

Just some additional information to help get you started:

"For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment."

Eric G (Geis66) | 1 comments Hello members. My name is Eric. I am 38 years old and I have been an avid reader of history for 30 years. The first history books that I remember reading were the time life series " The Third Reich." Ever since then I have always had a history book in my hand.
Although my initial obsession lay with WW II, thanks to some great podcasts that i found, I have greatly expanded my reading into Rome, Byzantium, the Middle Ages and the Napoleonic era.
I also love to read about current events, politics. I read fiction as well, primarily Stephen King and Tom Clancy.
I work in Somerville, NJ as a public accountant, which i greatly enjoy. I also love dogs and have been known to volunteer at shelters.
I joined this group in hopes of finding some good books and expanding my library in various directions. Oddly enough i just purchased the book Enemies:History of the FBI for my nook a few days ago and I hope to contribute to the discussion.
I am no technical genius, so I could use help with linking books to my posts using my nook.
I look forward to interacting with the group.

To answer your question, I am 95% certain I read this years ago. I don't have it marked on my list though - I should check it out again, good reminder. Thanks!
