My name is Nicole, I am 31 year old mother of an amazing almost 12-year-old ballet dancer whom I homeschool. I live in Vermont, (which has not been as snowy as usual this winter) and basically divide my free time between languages, reading and writing. Poetry is my preferred form of writing although I am attempting to foray into fiction work. I am current working on mastering German and Russian. Finally, I am here as an avid history lover. My favorite tim periods 1100-1300, the Tudors, the Italian Renaissance, Victorian Era, American Gilded Age.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post . Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

My name is Haley and I love history. I loved it so much that I went to college and got a history B.A. My favorite era is the American Civil War. I'm from Washington state... which wasn't even a state during the Civil War unfortunately. I have two cats who love to listen to Civil War songs. Hee hee I have them trained! Okay I am obsessed with that time period, but I enjoy all history. :)
I look forward to discussing history and learning about some good historical books.

Hi, Haley and Tara, welcome to the group. I know you're going to love it here, there's lots to explore. You might want to check out the threads in the 50 Books in 2012 section at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_.... You will find some great recommendations there.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hello Tara, Mark and Nicole....sorry that I was away in the Far East and not able to properly welcome you. Enjoy the group.
Hi, I'm Mike, a psychology/history student (I started late in life) in Louisiana. My interests have been all over the place period-wise, but the more I've studied the more I've come to love the long nineteenth, mainly European. Nice to meet y'all.

and I am an "old" bookworm (you can take this literally as I just turned 51)...I read everything well written in either English or German so any questions regarding German authors and possible translations into English don't hesitate to ask me, I will answer as best as I can...just have some patience as I am not online constantly, usually only on weekends
