Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1 comments Hello everyone, my name is Anna. I was born in Latvia. My early childhood was spent in Moscow and when it was time for me to attend school my family returned to Latvia. Currently I live in Britain.
I enjoyed history at school and wished to study history at university however it didn’t happen.
I joined this group because it seemed good place where to find suggestions for further reading.

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) Hi Anna, welcome to the group, I am sure you will find lots of interesting suggestions here for future reading :)

Alisa (mstaz) Anna, welcome to our truly international group. We are glad to have you as a member.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how books you mention should look:

The Big Burn Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America by Timothy Egan Timothy Egan Timothy Egan

Hello Anna, Clint, Ted, Thomas and Turtle Island, welcome to the group.
Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few nice threads on music.
Come and take a look/listen if you like - and Island girl - I'm sure your turtles will find some melodies there to rock their socks!
Best,
André

message 4206: by Bob (new)

Bob I'm Bob and I'm glad to find this group. My history interests are American history, British history, Civil War, WW1 and WW2 history, presidential biographies, church and ancient Near East history.

My day job is working with a collegiate ministry at The Ohio State University. I enjoy choral singing with a community choir, gardening and work around my home, summer evenings at a baseball park, and good conversation over a good brew, hot or cold!

Alisa (mstaz) Thanks for amending your post, I think you've got it! We repeat the links for all new members when we welcome them here so it was not a bother at all.

I don't know how or if you can post a tutorial. Hmmm, good question. If you do figure it out, send me a PM and maybe we can incorporate it somewhere on one of our threads - mechanics of the board perhaps.

Glad to have you with us.

Stephen,

Thank you and the way you have your citations in 4306 is perfect, but I did not see them before.

Let me know what you have in mind about this video. There are a number of variations and different scenarios that we would like to explore.

Alisa contacted me about this and I have given her some details to get you started. But I would have to approve the final product before it is posted here.

Thanks for the offer and thanks to Alisa for helping be the intermediary.

Sue Burke (sueburke) Hello history fans, I'm an American living in Spain -- a writer and an English teacher. I read a lot of history about Spain, and I read in both English and Spanish.

Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to get a book in Spanish here even though it was originally published in English. For example, I read 1491 by Charles C. Mann, an outstanding book, but in translation.

1491 Una nueva historia de las Americas antes de Colon by Charles C. Mann Charles C. Mann Charles C. Mann

History of all sorts is tremendously popular here in Spain, so there's always a lot being published.

When you mention authors, you should also add their photos, if available, and their links. For example, Larry McMurtry should be shown as Larry McMurtry Larry McMurtry. I'm not sure of the first names of the other authors you cite so I can't post those links. It only takes a few seconds to do each citation after a bit of practice.

message 4235: by Bea (last edited Feb 28, 2012 09:28PM) (new)

Bea | 1830 comments Hi, Juana. You'll find a great group of friendly book lovers here.

For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post itself.

Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book itself and/or author and increases the readability of your posts.

Here's how one of the books we are discussing now would look:

Battle Cry of Freedom The Civil War Era by James M. McPherson by James M. McPherson James M. McPherson
