'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) Hi Shannon and welcome back to the group. I am sure you will find a lot here to keep you interested.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

This is how a book that you mention in a post should look:

Paris The Secret History by Andrew Hussey by Andrew Hussey
Which is what I'm currently reading

Jill H. (bucs1960) Welcome back, Shannon. We are glad that you are back in the fold. (The rocking senior citizen center sounds interesting!!!!)

Alisa (mstaz) Shannon, from one Seattle-ite to another, welcome, or should I say welcome back. Based on your description you could be across from a couple of senior centers, but I bet they make great neighbors!

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 12 comments Hi Shannon, I spent a short year in Bremerton (close to Seattle) in 1970 (between Vietnam tours) while serving in the navy. I developed an affinity for the Pacific Northwest that I still have today.

The Bremerton Naval Base is still very active. When I was a kid at Girl Scout camp we appreciated the submarine drills, because it made great waves on otherwise still days.

Joel Trono-Doerksen Hello!

My name is Joel and I'm fairly new to goodreads and I wanted to join a group that is interested in history. I live in Winnipeg, Canada and I attend the University of Winnipeg and I'm in my second year. My major is, surprise surprise, history. Also, since I am just getting started on Goodreads, I could use some friends. My main interests include: Islamic history, Ottoman history, the crusades, 16th and 17th Mediterranean, the barbary pirates and Muslim Spain but I'm always interested to expand my horizons to other parts of history (except prehistory lol)

Peace be with you,

Joel

Jill H. (bucs1960) Joel........look on the right, above the comment box...you will see "add book/author". Click on that and type in the name of the book. At the bottom of that box you indicate "cover" and then click "add". Same with author. I hope that makes sense......if it doesn't, please tell us. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a habit.

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) I've moved this post for Marla:

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't been posting or commenting. Work at the high school and then taking my own classes at college has really been eating up my time here. I am still trying to read the books of the month, between my work, schoolwork and life in general. I can't wait to graduate and have my teaching license. I am doing a triple licensure (what am I thinking???). Most people do dual licensure in secondary education and special Ed or elementary Ed and special Ed-I am doing all three with endorsements in psychology and English. At least when I teach English, i can feed my passion for books while sharing my passion with my students. Anyway, I hope to be commenting more here!
Love you all!
Marla

Paul Perry (pezski) Hello all!

I'm Paul (or Pez, Pezter, Pezski etc) and live in Sheffield on the edge of England's oldest national park, the Peak District, where I try to spend as much time as possible walking, cycling and taking photos.

I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. While I've generally preferred reading fiction as I've got older my proportion of non-fiction has increased - initially with science writing, some philosophy and now history. Hence me looking for and joining you guys. This looks like an excellent group and I hope I'm able to contribute.

I'm currently reading Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic and have just picked up The Thirty Years War: Europe's Tragedy from the library, although I definitely going to have to join in with the December read on Byzantium, as this is an area I've wanted to find out more about for some time. I hope I don't overdose and suddenly find the need to read nothing but trash, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

message 3550: by Scott (new)

Scott | 134 comments The Thirty Years War fascinates me. Maybe we can start a Buddy Read on "The Thirty Years War: A European Tradegy". And I do want to be part of the discussion on Byzantium.
