Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how the author you've mentioned should look:

There is also a thread to post what you are reading now, which is a great way to see what the membership is up to and share your interests with others.

I think that there should be a book about the history of horses in warfare to celebrate their contribution. Do you know of such a book?
I love Bucephalus ;) Can't find a book about him here, though. But I thought this one about Napoleon's horse could be of interest. Meet Marengo!

You could try Ann Hyland's trilogy. I've only read the middle book, 'The Warhorse in the Modern Era 1600-1865 and it is more about breeding and supply than anything else. Not tried the other two.
If you want a good horse biography, try Eclipse by Nicholas Clee. The greatest racehorse of his generation, owned by a con-man and a prostitute!

Hi Karolina
Sorry - I forgot that I came across one by an American author a few months ago. 'Warhorse - A History of the Military Horse and Rider' by Louis DiMarco. I've not read it so can't recommend or not, but here's the link.
Ah - can't pick it up, nor the author. I'm not sure if I should post an Amazon link but here it is anyway:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/War-Horse-His...
I'm sure I'll get told off if that's not allowed.
Best wishes,
J.

Jonathan, it is okay to link to Amazon as long as it is not an author page (self-promotion that sort of thing). The first choice is goodreads' link:

Thanks and keep on talking :-)!

No problem, Jonathan, we are here to help.

Thanks for having me,

Hello Karolina, remember when citing a book: always add bookcover, author's photo (when available) and always the author's link. When citing an author: add the author's photo when available and always the author's link.
This is how your citation should look since there was no author's photo available.

I love history, politics and good fiction.
And I collect Salt and Pepper sets.
Hope to enjoy some chat about the history I read, with you all.

You won't be disappointed with this group. It has innumerable informed readers. Nevertheless, I hope you learn how to navigate the site more quickly than me.

Welcome to the group, I am sure you'll have a great time here discussing your favourite books and authors and I am sure you will find lots of good suggestions once you start poking around in the various threads.
It sounds like you have the best of two worlds that I love, music and books :)

I'm Frank, living in the Northeast U.S, hoping to retire soon to South Carolina. I've been part of the Goodreads club community -- on and off -- for several years, but on the fiction side. I am eager to expand my involvement to non-fiction. I have a liberal arts education from University of Michigan -- years ago -- and earn my keep today as a IT data technician. Looking forward to reading the Clinton autobiography and possibly re-reading Distant Mirror (Would the Morris book Colonel Roosevelt be a prospective title? I loved the first two books in the biography). I very much like the idea of getting at history through literature, but trust that the bulk of the recommended readings are non-fiction. I am not sure I would have the time right now to keep up with section or chapter commentary, preferring instead to weigh in on the book as a whole in a final or ending book thread. Is that all right? Thanks again!

As to the group reads, you may comment on the book as a whole threads and are not required to comment on the weekly sections, although we invite all commentary. The weekly threads are non-spoiler, so you just need to be mindful of that.
Besides the group reads there are many topics set up where books are discussed. I hope you enjoy exploring.
Thanks and glad you joined us.

I joined this group because I enjoy historical novels and biographies. I prefer non-fiction world history, but sometimes a fiction book is nice too. I hope to find some great new books and authors. I've never been in a book club before and I'm looking forward to discussions and feedback.

I also agree with your view that those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

My name is Irina, a 23 year old woman from a suburb outside of Detroit, MI. I developed my love for reading history from my father who use to read me bedtime stories from his history books. My favorite had been when he was in an Aztec phase because the idea of human sacrifice was such a scary, titillating and forbidden subject for a 10 year old.
On Thursday the 28th, I'm taking my oath of enlistment into the US Air Force with my fingers crossed for a linguist slot. I'm trying to cram as many books as possible before basic training.
I'm looking forward to the discussions that this group has and seeing the different books that are recommended.
