Alisa (mstaz) Welcome Denis and Jennifer, glad to have you with us. Lots to explore here and we hope you participate in the discussions and book recommendations. You can ask any moderator if you need a hand with the citations but it will come as second nature once you do it a few times.

Shelly♥ (shellysjournal) Hello,

My name is Shelly and I am a 45 year old homeschool Mom of 2 little boys. I have loved teaching history to them the last couple of years - have always had an interest. But, I find few places where I can share my enthusiasm in other book groups.

Right now I'm working through Founding Father Bios since that's the era we are studying and have also started The Civil War, Vol. 1 Fort Sumter to Perryville by Shelby Foote by Shelby Foote
in anticipation for the coming year.

I've kind of been in American History in 2012, but love other history as well.

I live in Virginia - the heart of American History, so it's been a good year to study the founding of our country.

message 5205: by Mark (new)

Mark Mortensen Welcome, Shelly. Glad you could join us.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo (when available) and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

You almost got the book reference correct. This is how the books you've mentioned should look with the author link too:

The Civil War, Vol. 1 Fort Sumter to Perryville by Shelby Foote by Shelby Foote Shelby Foote

Please use the “(preview)” tab to view your alignment before officially “posting”.

Shannon Daily (shnondaily) Hello Everyone,

It is very nice to meet you. I'm Shannon. I'm 23 and currently live in Southern Illinois. I love to read anything related to History, Philosophy, Psychology, Economics, and Finance. I'll read some Fiction from time to time if there are philosophical undertones or if it takes place in a dystopian setting. I just graduated from college. I love to read, but haven't gotten to in a very long time. In order to celebrate this time in my life, I'm starting a book review blog/vlog that will launch in September. I look forward to communicating with all of you and sharing book recommendations. :)

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post.

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 29 comments My name is Harold Titus. My interest in history was ignited by a junior college history teacher. I taught English and American history to eighth grade students for 31 years. My general secondary teaching credential major was history. I had the good fortune to take at UCLA two upper division history classes and two graduate history classes from the historian Charles Page Smith. I have read many non-fiction history books, but my main interest now is historical fiction. I look forward to participating in the club's discussions.

The people that run this club Manny are great. They really take the time and make it enjoyable. Welcome. I hope you like it as much as I do. On another note, I popped into say that my oldest is one eagle project away from becoming an Eagle Scout. My entire family is big into scouting. Go Scouts :)!

And thanks for the kind words, Autumn.
(BTW, I am also from a scouting family, me included, and was a lifeguard at Girl Scout camp for years...lucky I never had to save anyone!!!! I guess the swimming lessons we offered paid off.)

You are welcome. Not kind just true. It amazes me how much time all of you take with all of us and it really makes this group fun and enjoyable for me.
I've enjoyed seeing my oldest in scouts and all of the things he has learned (like swimming). My youngest will be a tiger cub this year :).
Very cool about girl scouts! I wish they had offered more of a program here when I was younger. My youngest wants to be a lifeguard (he is 7) so you would be the equivalent of superman to him right now.
This has inspired to look into the history of scouting. Any book recs anyone ?:) Send them my way please. :)
Welcome again Manny!
