Hi Ted,
welcome to the group!

For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment.
It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post.

This is how the book you mentioned should look:

To End a War by Richard Holbrooke by Richard Holbrooke Richard Holbrooke

More information can be found here:

Take a moment to read our guidelines:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

and the orientation to get you started:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come and take a look/listen if you like.

If you have any questions feel free to ask any of the moderators.
Best wishes,

André

Hi Steelwhisper - we do not allow authors to self advertise or solicit - we are glad to have you here but no matter how veiled or minor - we allow no solicitation of any kind. Good luck with your research but keep that in mind. We delete all such posts. We ask that authors focus their intro on history and what interested them in the group.

Mark Mortensen Welcome Tony! If you have any good historical Celtic books to recommend please pass the information along on. If you choose, it appears that “Travel Talk” thread in the History Club file folder would be the appropriate location to post such information.

A few years ago I toured Ireland and picked up enough history to know that the national color is royal blue rather than emerald green and the country’s symbol is the harp not a leprechaun! I’m also fascinated by the Guinness family history in relation to beer and the origin of the Guinness Records.

Jennifer Repine (JennPettit) | 6 comments Hello! I just found this app/group accidentally & am happy I did. I am a voracious reader, with stacks of books in almost every room, reading several books at a time depending on which room I'm in. History is my favorite, particularly the Kennedys, Civil War, and British History. I find myself reading one book that leads me into a theme, and I end up educating myself. Right now I'm reading Churchill/Truman/FDR books. I'm a married mother of a teen daughter living in Lancaster Co, PA.

Denis | 1 comments Hi
I'm Denis from Long Island, NY. I am a lifelong reader with a broad interest in all types of history, and I have taught HS history for over 25 years.

My interest in history was kindled by my father, an avid reader and also a history teacher who introduced me to Harold Lamb and Thomas B. Costain when I was quite young, my great uncle Jack who had a seanchai's knowledge of Irish history, myth and legend (and who was proud to be descended from the hereditary family of historians who served the Ard Ri 800 years ago), and by a kindly old man named Mr. George who was a Holocaust survivor from Romania. He owned a bookstore in my hometown and took an interest in my education, giving me copies of Herodotus, Thucydides and Plutarch when my friends were reading the Hardy Boys.

I teach the International Baccalaureate course, History of the Americas and my students' research interest help keep me current with modern historiography. I'm a member of the AHA and the OAH and I picked up Mommsen's History of Rome this summer (which I hadn't read in 30 years) and that's kept me pretty busy for the past few weeks.

One of my former students introduced me to Goodreads just recently and I'm looking forward to being a member of this group.

Right now I'm trying to teach myself more about Churchill, which also lead me to the Blitz and Roosevelt. I'm supplementing my reading by watching documentaries. Can anyone recommend some good books on these subjects? I'm reading a Churchill/Roosevelt book & I'm about to start Manchester's Churchill series as soon as I can get Vol. 1 from the library. Jill H. (bucs1960) Remember that the "link" is the default setting, and you must change that to "cover" or "photo" at the bottom of the window. It just takes a couple of tries for it to become second nature!!!
