Hi Dennis, Helena,
welcome to the group.

For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment.
It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post.

This is how the book you mentioned should look:

To End a War by Richard Holbrooke by Richard Holbrooke Richard Holbrooke

I'm Kate,21 years old and living in Salisbury (right by Stonehenge)England. I have just finished a degree in Ancient and Medieval history, and my dissertation title was whether noble laywomen in the 12th and 13th centuries held any real power.

I'm interested in always expanding my historical knowledge! Any books suggestions will be happily explored.

That's pretty much why I'm here!

Mark Mortensen Wow, what a wonderful group joining around July 4th! Welcome Helena, Kate, Lisa, Bill, Scarlet and Jeannine to the world-wide History Club.

Helena, although you are constantly on the move, our History Club is always just a click away.

Kate from England, I’ve been watching most of the Wimbledon matches on television. It’s great competition along with a bit of fine history and Royalty.

Lisa, the club thrives on recommendations! Search around the different sites for comments as well as the “favorite” book listings of individuals. Contribute too!

Bill, I see where you enjoy military history too. It’s amazing how much recorded history involves war and militaries. There is no escape!

Scarlet, you noted you are a nurse (there is no average) and I see you like to observe people. Why are people and nations always fighting?

And to Jeannine from Boston, that’s the city I was born in, a Boston baby!

(www.squidoo.com/stlouisfamilyfun), scrapbooker, and sporatic book reader and I am probably a tad bit ADHD! hahhahaha! I prefer to read books and resources that will enhance my knowledge of what I teach, things that may interest my family, provide ideas of things to do or visit, etc. I do read novels every once in awhile, but they have to be along the lines of historical fiction, or, "could possibly happen".

And, there is NO way I will read 50 books this year, but I have already read more than what I read last year!

Lori Hello everyone. I'm found you because you are reading 'Battle Cry of Freedom' and this group showed up. I am reading this book for at least the third time because of the 150 year anniversary of the (American) Civil War.

I saw somewhere that some section will be reading 'What Hath God Wrought'. Could someone let me know which section?

I am generally interested in economic, social, and cultural history. The areas I am most interested in are the transition times, especially Rome to Europe. I am also interested in American and English history. This has mostly developed since my college days. Most of the books I read now are at the upper undergraduate to graduate level of research.

I am in Sunnyvale, CA (what we call Sili Valley (think silicon)). Look at my books to see what else I'm interested in.

I _think_ I got the referencing correct, but let me know if not.
