I've got a bit less time now unfortunately, but I still devour books daily.
I love historical novels that are really well researched e.g Gregory, not particularly into romances (sorry), love contemporary, authors from around the world, but basically I'll go to the library, read a couple of random paragraphs and if I like the writing style I'll read it.

It was a finalist in the Discovery Award for historical fiction but didn't win; it did, however, win the literary fiction category. It's told from 3 different points-of-view. Check it out if you haven't already. :o)

I looked at Shades of Grey because everyone was talking about it. I read the sample chapters and found it dull.
Have just finished reading Lake of Dreams http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lake-of-D... but found it disapointing - not nearly as good as The Memory Keeper's Daughter. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Memory-Ke...
There are some exciting new writers on Kindle and I search for and read them avidly.

just make sure... you mean this "50 Shades of Grey" thing and not Jasper Fforde's "Shades of Grey", right?
People keep confusing me these days, as I love Fforde (well, "Shades of Grey" not so much) but would never read the 50 Shades thing...

I'm Salina, um>I'm from Taiwan (Might be unusual) I've grew up living around the world (I travel a lot in continually time since I was born) ), I'm an avid reader. I love Science Fiction, Recently I've finished Old Man's war by John Scalzi and started The Android's Dream, I'm a Janet Evanovich Fan, I've enjoyed her Stephanie Plum series book. Reading is one of the thing I most love, without reading, I would be nowhere, haha. Looking forward to this group, looks like one I can blend into!

I'm George. I work, read, write, and publish. Sometimes it's fun; sometimes it sucks. Still, here I am, pretending to be a Good Reader! In reality I need to read a little more than I do. Heh.

Rules for authors have changed because of the changing GR climate, and so the new answer, if anyone happens by this comment, is no. People can see your books when they click on your name. Beyond that, it is not appropriate to bring your authorship into the group, period.
And welcome, Keith! :)

Otherwise I enjoy horror, classics, Y.A., mystery, thriller, suspense, historical fiction, fantasy and action. Quite the variety! :)
Anyway, it's nice to meet you all, and I look forward to reading together in the coming months! I've already chosen my "blue cover" book ;)

Check out THE GAZE. I think you'll love it! It's very different from a typical romance, but its ratings are really high.
Are you going to join us reading a blue cover book in July? I'm starting Divergent today. :)
Hello Group! I'm Tina, and I live in Southern California. I am a high school social studies teacher and an avid reader. I like books from most genres, but my favorite is contemporary literary fiction. I enjoy mysteries that are suspenseful and intriguing, but I will not read crime, horror or vampire books because I do not like to be scared. I like the freedom this club allows, and my "blue" book is a reread of a favorite, The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery. Happy reading!

Thanks Tina! I appreciate the recommendation, I'll look for it! My book for the "blue cover" is Catch 22. Just started this afternoon!
I assume since you use the terms 'junior', 'freshmen' etc. that you're in the USA, whereas I'm in Ireland, so I'll be a fifth year, a.k.a. in the second last year of secondary school, or highschool if you prefer :)

Hope you enjoy this group. :o)

I love reading books from any genre: fantasy, magicians, historical fiction, classic, mystery, romance,..anything as long as it has a good plot.
Sometimes it's a little difficult to find specific english books in my country (besides online shops), but I'm looking forward to read more, based on different themes from this group. Nice to meet you all :)

I'd like to make a suggestion:
In another reading group (not on GR), I once participated in a theme-based project: Everyone read a different book about the same topic, pretty much the way we do here, and we discussed about similarities, differences and reasons for both. It was fun and taught us all a lot :-).
Our topic was India, and we asked one another questions on the way different aspects were presented (family life, landscape / animals, politics / corruption / nepotism). We most certainly had a lot of comparing to do that set us thinking and that made our reading experience so much more interesting and rewarding!
Maybe we could do something like this every once in a while (admittedly, "a blue cover" doesn't lend itself too well to that idea).
The cool thing here is that we are such a diverse bunch that we could also compare the way we feel about the issues addressed, and talk about the reasons why.
I'd love that - not always, maybe, but sometimes, when we have a topic that will make these discussions worthwhile: broad enough to cover many different aspects / settings, and narrow enough to have some common ground to tread on.
It's just a suggestion, though, and if you'd like to keep things "separated", I'll gladly participate just as well!
