Sandra (sandraregina) Hi, I'm Sandra. I'm from Southern Ontario. I live alone with my two cats and a fairly large collection of books. I love speculative fiction, and crime novels, and historical ones too. Aw, heck, I love novels. I'm currently on a classic novel binge. I don't do a lot of non-fiction reading, but I'm working on it.

message 202: by Gemmalina (new)

Gemmalina Hi everyone,
My name is Gemma and I'm 32 and from Wales, UK. I started reading for pleasure a few years ago and I'm hooked. My reading various so much. Currently I'm reading about 21st century psychological theories but equally I love a good story whatever the genre. Happy Reading everyone!

Has everyone decided on their 'blue cover' book? I'm still having a think :-)

message 203: by Kezia (new)

Kezia (chapteriosity) Hi! As you can see, my name is Kezia. I'm from Indonesia. I've been learning English since I was kindergarten. I'm turning 14 this October. I started reading a lot last year so maybe my collection is not that large, but I believe it will grow from time to time. I enjoy reading YA, fantasy, and sci-fi novels.

message 205: by Varla Fiona (new)

Varla Fiona (dory_42) Howdy newbies (says the slightly less newby)!

Sandra, non-fiction, is not required reading! But, if you want to get into it, find a topic you are really interested in, then get a short book which will add to your knowledge about it, or is about a person who is involved with that topic. Read it at your own pace, in between fiction stuff. I read a selection of non-fiction because there is so much I still want to know or understand, but it normally takes me longer than fiction.

Gemma, check out the thread where everyone lists what they are reading. Something might appeal to you there (I added some to my TBR shelf anyway).

Thank you, Varla. I will have a look and I imagine there will be a few titles being aded to my TBR shelf, also.

Loving the idea of choosing a book by theme. When to a local supermarket last night and picked up a book called 61 Hours by Lee Child. New author for me and don't often read thrillers, so here goes!!! What are you reading? :-)

Swaroop | 9 comments Hi! I am Swaroop, 35 yrs old and i am from India. Have been an avid reader since i was about 7. I am a Computer Science engineer and work unfortunately keeps me pretty busy, but i still spend at least an hour reading every day. So some of the challenges (100 books??) seem kinda impossible to me! I love reading for leisure and pleasure, with crime, mysteries, thrillers as well as contemporary literature being my favourite genres. Am a comics enthusiast too. Some of my favourite authors - Neil Gaiman, Michael Chabon, Colin Cotterill, Henning Mankell.

message 225: by Megan (last edited Jul 13, 2012 08:39AM) (new)

Megan | 19 comments Hello, I'm Rainy. I saw this group in the featured groups category today and decided to check it out. The concept of having everyone read books that are similar in a certain way but not having to read the same exact book each month is genius and convenient. Whoever came up with the idea - well, kudos to you!

My favorite genres are fantasy, classics, mystery, young-adult, children's, and historical fiction. Every now and then I find a good realistic fiction read, but they're not my favorites.

message 226: by Varla Fiona (new)

Varla Fiona (dory_42) Welcome Rainy. You're name is very appropriate in my home town this weekend!

message 229: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 3 comments Hello!!! My name is Crystal and I'm from Canada. I find television bores me too much these days and never holds my interest so I find I read a lot more than I ever have. I'm not fond of hospital or police shows as they are all the same, thus these do not fall into my interest in books either. I lean more towards historical, adventure type books (Steve Berry/Dan Brown/Raymond Khoury), books set around beautiful destinations (Carlos Ruiz Zafon), some bestsellers (Kate Morton), even some chick lit (Emily Giffin/Nora Roberts), some supernatural (Deborah Harkness) - though I find the market is just FLOODED with these type books that they all seem the same and I really have to be in the mood to try them out. I should be honest and say I think YA novels are flooding the market as well BUT I do like that it engages young people to read. I would say when I was a YA it was hard to find something marketed to YA's but now that I'm an adult, I want something more for me.

Anyhow, I would love to read and discuss your recommendations. Feel free to add me as a friend :)

C.

message 231: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (andrea_angelyna) Hello Group - You sound very interesting! My name is Andrea, and I'm currently in the American Midwest. I had the same dilemma as Crystal a while back- tv is just not interesting. So much of it is the same thing, reshuffled. We cut our cable four years ago, and haven't been more than momentarily sorry (no Olympics, boo) since. The best part is that it helped me return to books. I belong to one other group, but this premise sounds like there will be enough flexibility to keep everyone engaged and interested. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Thanks!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 63 comments Hi everyone, I'm a Texan girl born in Dallas but raised in good ol' California. I currently live in the central California about an hour's drive from Sacramento.

I have five grown children (3 daughters and 2 sons) and 19 grandchildren, 10 boys and 9 girls. I think they are all finished adding to their families except for one of my daughters and her hubby who are still considering having their 5th child.

I have taught English since 1992 to freshmen in high school, yearbook since 1996, and I taught four years of multicultural literature to seniors the past four years.

I am SO in love with this site and a chance to discuss books with book lovers just for the fun of it. How will I ever go back to reading freshman "essays" in just three short weeks? LOL

I love reading, music, camping and fishing, musicals, movies, dancing, and did I say reading?

Glad to be in this group and praying that I can contribute something worthwhile every so often!
