1) Everyone is to be respected here. That means no sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, racism, religious intolerance, etcetera. You will get one warning on this subject before being blocked.
2) Absolutely no spam. If you are seen posting spam, you will get one warning before being blocked. If you post malicious (in the sense of viruses, Trojans, etcetera) or pornographic spam, you will not get a warning.
3) Goodreads is open to anyone thirteen or older. So is this group. If your topic will deal with erotica or pornography, it must be marked 18+. In the same vein, please do not post pornographic images in your thread. If referencing an sexually explicit book cover, link to it, don't post it. (For the purpose of the group, pornography is nudeness intended to arouse the viewer. This differs from nude art, which is not.)
4) Goodreads permits cursing, and so does this group. Please remember to respect everyone's opinion of cursing. Do not use cursing simply to provoke those who find it offensive. Do not use cursing to attack, slander, or purposefully discomfort other members. Do not rant about other members' choice of language.
5) While cursing is acceptable, slurs are not. Derogatory terms used in passing will result in a single warning. Derogatory terms used to attack will result in an immediate ban.
6) Active posting is not required. Voting is not required. No aspect of group participation is in any way required. Lurkers are perfectly welcome here. However, any person who has not been on the Goodreads website in over a year could possibly be removed from the group if the need for some reason arises.
7) At the current time, there is only one moderator. This could certainly change as the group grows. However, the decision to add a new moderator is entirely up to the current moderators; once said decision is made, the process of finding and adding a new moderator will begin. Unless said process is underway, requests to be added as a moderator will soundly ignored, and pestering will result in two warnings before a block.
8) Moderators absent from the group for six consecutive months will be removed from their position. If their position hasn't been filled upon their return, they may be reinstated.
9) Plagiarism is not tolerated. You may quote passages of books and snippets of reviews, and you may post links to reviews or free stories; however, sources must be credited and, if possible, linked to. However, you may not post entire reviews you did not write. You may not post stories you did not write.
10) All group members must respect copyright. Filesharing of ebooks that are not in the public domain or offered for free by the author is not allowed, and this includes links to illegal downloads. Those who violate this rule will receive one warning; further violations will result in blocking.
11) New rules can be implemented at any time. It is your responsibility to be aware of the rules, though monthly newsletters will include rules updates.
Rules for Authors
1) This is not a place to promote your books. Self-promotion will be immediately removed.
2) Reader's opinions are their own. You may not argue with a reader about your book. If you do so, you will be removed from the group.
3) If you are caught abusing or stalking reviewers anywhere on the Internet, you will be blocked from the group immediately.
4) If you are caught abusing GR in any way, shape, or form, you will be blocked from the group immediately. Abuse of GR means: use of sock puppet accounts; spamming users; harassing, mocking, confronting, or stalking reviewers.

The Life of a Theme
Step 1: Themes are suggested in this thread.
Step 2: New suggestions are added to The Master List of Themes and assigned a number (in my offline records).
Step 3: When it's time for a new monthly poll to be created, four themes are randomly chosen with this generator.
Step 4 The four randomly chosen themes are placed on the new monthly poll, which is opened up for member voting two months before its month arrives.
Step 5: One month before the poll's month arrives, the poll is featured on the group's main page.
Step 6: One week before the first day of the poll's month, the poll closes and the winning theme is announced.

How to Create a Topic/Thread
More coming soon! If you would like to contribute a tutorial, please let me know!
This topic has been frozen by the moderator. No new comments can be posted.
How does this group work?
It's easy. Every month, the group will have a theme, and members will be expected (not required, of course!) to read a book that fits that theme. For example, one month's theme might be "A Child Character"--that is, a book in which one of the prominent characters is a child. Another month, the theme might be "A Blue Cover"--in other words, any book with a cover that's mostly blue.
Are there any rules?
Please read the rules before posting! When you first post in the group, you will see a small pop-up box prompting you to do so.
I joined! What now?
Introduce yourself. Vote for our next theme. Join the conversation, if you'd like to. Explore!
Who picks the theme?
See here.
What if the monthly poll ends in a tie?
I'll try to save my vote until the end so I can break any ties that might creep up. If I've already used my vote for a particular month, I'll send out a message calling everyone to vote if they haven't already. If the tie simply cannot be broken, members may pick which of the winning themes they'd like to participate in that month.
What if I hate the theme?
That's okay. While themes certainly offer readers a lot of freedom, even the most general of themes can't please everyone. So if you really hate a theme, just skip that month!
I like the theme, but I can't think of a book to fit it!
Your fellow members can surely help you. The first place to go is the month's What We're Reading thread. For example, here is the What We're Reading thread of May 2012.
I'm eager to discuss my chosen book with other readers.
Great! In that case, you should definitely tell us about your book in the monthly thread! Tell us what you loved, what you hated, what you would've liked to see more or less of, and whatever else you thought about the story! Obviously, more popular books will get more feedback, but even the most obscure readers are welcome to share their thoughts!
I'm an overachiever, and I really love to read. Can I read more than one themed book in a particular month?
Of course! If you manage to read two or more themed books during a month, feel free to tell us about each other them in the What We're Reading thread.
You mentioned challenges. What are they?
The group has four challenges that members can enter, just for fun.
• Read 12 Books During 2012
• Read 50 Books During 2012
• Read 100 Books During 2012
Someone's violating the rules!
Send me a message about it with a link to the offending comment. If it violates GR policy, I'll flag it for staff attention. If it does not violate GR policy but does violate group policy, I will delete the comment and either warn or block the commenter, depending on their past behavior.
I'm having some trouble figuring out how to do something. Can you help me?
Of course! Please browse the tutorials, and if nothing there addresses your issue, bring it up here.
You didn't answer my question here.
The General Help thread is the place for you. Important questions that I overlooked will be added to this thread after they're pointed out to me.
