Do you need a hug?"

I think I just might!

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I found another 2 other horror groups, unfortunately one had strict rules and the other hardly has much in it so needless to say..this is the place for Horror.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments What are the strict rules?

Can't post constantly? Uh, isn't that what keeps a group going??? LOL, not many here would last at that site!!! Or want to, for that matter! ;O)

Yeah, that'll draw members like flies to a bloated corpse. I saw a horror group and when I clicked on it and saw all the little hearts and stars in the members' user names, I knew it was run by some teens and 20-somethings and I ran.

We all would, with the exception of Eileen. ;-D

Renee (elenarenee) I was in one group that had the rule that if you talked about a book that was not in the groups genre you were put on moderated status. It was paranormal romance group. I hit the road. I read many different types of books.

HAHAHA! Well damn. I think it's time to change my image.

message 62: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Don't ever change, Eileen. :-D

Eileen Thanks! You either, Tressa.

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 118 comments The Stephen King group is active, too. And there are some other horror books besides King's discussed there.

message 65: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments And Angie is all kinds of awesome as a moderator. I just know this even though I'm not a member there.

It's active and Angie is a great moderator but it's filled with too many obsessed King fans who have no ability to be objective when it comes to King's works, IMO.

message 67: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments When I said you can't constantly post I meant you can't constantly make posts bout your book if your an author, sorry I should have specified. You can't promote pretty much and I've seen other places were they are like a clique they are all friends and outsiders wont get treated as such.

message 68: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Ah, I thought that was an odd rule. Most groups do have a folder set up for author promotion, but don't like authors spamming just any thread about their books.

Different people here have known each other for different lengths of time, but I think we're still an open group and get to know well any person who inserts him or herself into the conversation often enough.

message 69: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Regarding promoting your own work: I think that we're pretty relaxed here, but there is an ethic that most promoting authors follow when they self promote. Which is good. I've been on other forums were authors will come in and post their book advertisement, the same one I might add, in various threads at the same time. That's ugly, unprofessional, and frustrating for the members.

Nobody's done that here that I'm aware of, though. Which is also good. :)

message 70: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments The few times they've done this, Jason, I've deleted their posts if I saw they were aware of the Author Promotion folder, or deleted their post and PM'd them about the Author Promotion folder. And, really, spamming your book promotion on any thread will just make members roll their eyes and resist reading anything the author is promoting. Or that's my opinion.

message 71: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Yeah, it's a real turn off.

Jason, new to Goodreads, and an author. In fact, you welcomed me a few days ago. Just wanted to say that I posted my book with the Horror group and the Thriller group, using what I took to be the appropriate locations. Hope I didn't violate accepted practice.
Evan

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Not at all. You did well, I think. :)

message 74: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) I actually like the authors posts. I have a bad habit of always picking up the same authors. I like reading about authors I may not have tried otherwise
