Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 200 comments Uh, I'd much rather it was Idris Elba. Love that man!

CheeseAssasin (makefetch) | 78 comments Idris yes. Tyler no.

What casting director had to choose between Idris and Tyler and went with Tyler? I need to meet this person and kick him in the head.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 94 comments I vote for Idris too. Tyler has a distinguished air, but I think Idris has more of the charisma I associate with this character.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 94 comments Morgan is showing his age. I don't know anything about the white woman.

Christa | 3 comments I would prefer Idris for the role. Tyler isn't as developed of an actor as Idris. Plus, Idris is just plain fine!!

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 157 comments I'm no big Tyler Perry fan, but maybe this will give him a chance to show off his acting chops away fromm Madea. He was pretty good in 'Good Deeds' though. I hate to admit it, but I liked him in that, though I think he's got some serious issues with successful black women. They tend to come off as uber-controlling and selfish in a lot of his films.

LMAO@ The bolded part! I totally agree and IDK who Alex Cross is (as I haven't read the book[s])

Dahlia DeWinters (dahliadewinters) | 11 comments Late, I am. But I have read the first couple of Alex Cross books before James Patterson became a factory, and I tell you, Idris is a lot closer than Tyler Perry is. However, Alex and his friend (whose name escapes me now, it's been a while) impressed me as more like ex-football players. I liked Morgan Freeman in the part, but felt he was too old. Someone more like Laurence Fishburne would have been better. Or a bulked up, taller Wesley Snipes.

But I'm old school, LOL.

Christa | 3 comments Idris is better for the role because he's a well-trained actor with more experience than Tyler. However, Tyler Perry has the money, the appeal of Lionsgate at his ear, and more directional expertise. This is a movie for Tyler to make a name for himself in the world of cinema. Looking at the trailer for the movie, I don't see Tyler pulling it off. The villain looks more committed to the role than Perry. All I can say is at least Perry is trying to break out into more mainstream cinema. We need all the black men we can get!

You got to remember that Perry pretty much owns Lionsgate. Well, at least Perry has made Lionsgate tons of money, so of course they would support him over Idris hands down

John Aubrey | 12 comments I appreciate the need for more roles for blacks, but lets make them count. No offense whatsoever to the talented Mr. Perry, but he so far hasn't shown the screen sex appeal that is in Alex Cross. Outside of Medea, none of Perry's characters have been charismatic enough to carry a film on their own. Simply put he's too soft. His last effort "Good Deeds" being an example.

I've seen trailers of the Alex Cross movie and there was nothing in his performance that moved me. Tyler is a good character actor and maybe that is where he should put his focus if he wish to continue as a performer. Maybe his skills will improve to where he can command the screen out of drag.

And, lets be honest, Alex Cross is a black character with a huge white fan base, arguably a white base that is larger than his black one due to Patterson's considerable following. He is one of the few black characters that already has mainstream drool appeal. One of the few black performers able to walk into those shoes is Idris (I just have to say two words, "BBC's Luther". It's on Netflixs and can be streamed through some online sites).

Cross has to be cool-sexycool-a potential husband, a good father, a master detective, a charming gentleman, a mouth watering hunk of chocolate every man sees as a rival and every woman wants dragging her to his bed.

Tyler Perry????????

Erica (ssserica) | 4 comments I would not have gone with Tyler but maybe he can pull it off. I never read the books I just see Idris as much more sexy and intense of a character then Tyler can ever be.

Tyler Perry can't pull it off in the trailer, I doubt he will in the movie.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 94 comments Did anyone see the Jamie Foxx skit on SNL where he does "Alex Cross 2, Tyler Perry style". He plays Mdea and Alex Cross in one body fighting one another. Hilarious.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Jamie Foxx is hilarious!! I didn't see the skit but I did watch Why Did I Get Married Too, and it was one of the worst movies I have seen in a while.

The plot was so unrealistic and contrived. The acting was awful. I wish the car had hit Janet Jackson's character because she was just awful OVER $$$.
