What were your least favorite books of the Spring 2012 challenge?

message 2: by JC (new)

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments The only low rating I had was 2 stars for: Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card

message 5: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments No 1-star ratings for me this season, but I gave out two 2-star ratings:

Neuromancer (Sprawl Trilogy, #1) by William Gibson State of Wonder by Ann Patchett

message 6: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne | 950 comments I did not have any 1-star ratings either. My lowest rating was 2-stars for The Witch Doctor's Wife by Tamar Myers. Not so much because it is a "bad" book. I was very much looking forward to reading this book as it plays in Congo, Africa where I spend part of my childhood, and I am very interested in African cultures. The story was interesing. However, the character assassination of entire nations was just too much for me.

The Witch Doctor's Wife by Tamar Myers

Riya (riyaishere) | 188 comments These books I didn't particulary care for:

Home Front by Kristin Hannah Room by Emma Donoghue Birds of a Lesser Paradise Stories by Megan Mayhew Bergman

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments Why didn't you like "Room"? I loved "Room'. I still think about that book.

message 9: by Riya (new)

Riya (riyaishere) | 188 comments It felt very tedious to read the whole story from Jack's point of view. I think the book would have been much better if there were chapters included from his mother's point of view, especially after they escaped from Old Nick. The last 100 pages I had to almost skim through, and there were so many parts that I found dull. I hope this review doesn't offend anyone - I know many people thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel, it just wasn't for me unfortunately.

mstan | 868 comments I had two one-star reads: The Thirteenth Tale and The Secret Adversary.

Two-star reads: Little Bee, The Night Circus, House of Many Ways, The Disenchantments (so disappointing since Hold Still was a 5-star read), Shoeless Joe (more because of the subject matter than because of the writing) and The Old Man and the Sea

I was just curious because you are the first person to say you didn't like the book.

Chelsi | 89 comments My two least favorite reads were
The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

message 14: by Cassie (last edited Jun 09, 2012 11:25AM) (new)

Cassie | 133 comments I was so disappointed with This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession by Daniel J. Levitin. I am not a scientist or a multi-accomplished musician, and the book was really geared towards those audiences. Hopefully someone who understands the terminology enjoyed it, because I couldn't get into it.

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismd) | 1237 comments Vixen (Flappers, #1) by Jillian Larkin
Loved the cover. Absolutely hated the book. Can't remember the last time I read anything this bad.

Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay
Extremely disappointing. The elements for a good story were there, but it just fell flat.

Foul Play by Janet Evanovich
The one and only reason I finished this was because I needed a book with a bird on the cover and it was short.

message 16: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 1091 comments My 2* reads from Spring:

State of Wonder
The Lovely Bones
The Tenth Circle
Divergent (I know a lot of people love this series - I just couldn't get into it.)

message 17: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 587 comments Don't worry, Ann, I had trouble with Divergent also, but I gave it 3 stars for at least holding my attention until the end. I just wasn't into the world building; it didn't make much sense to me.

message 18: by Tammy AZ (new)

Tammy AZ (tammyaz) | 1209 comments I had a hard time getting through The Eight. I've had it on my tbr for over a decade which made it doubly disappointing.

same here!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I liked Divergent, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Eight was only okay.
