Just Plain Ray (Ray_of_Sunshine) | 2557 comments I love it Lai! It has such a sweet ending :D

message 602: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments Thanks so much Rayana! And thanks for the review too! I had fun writing it! =)

message 603: by Snow (new)

Snow (kdskid007) Hey Elaine, you're an awesome writer! I love your story about sevens, No Matter. The ending was so touching, too. Just proves that you can determine your own fate. Butterfly was really sad, but I still liked it. It made me cry a bit, but that just proves you're an awesome author, 'cause you can make me laugh and cry, and in the same story! Keep writing! ^^

Anytime, and it was fun to read :) Great twist at the end (and I thought she would smack Michel in the face or something)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments Snow,
Wow! Thanks! You make me so happy!!! =D Yes, Lesllie is suppose to make you roll your eyes at her. And, yep, the seven letter names were on purpose. =D You really want to read more of The Cellist and Voices/Never Alone? Hmm...I'll have to think about putting some more up here. I have a long prologue and 4 chapters of Cellist and am working on the 5th. I'm working on the 3rd chapter in Voices/Never Alone. I will keep writing!!!! =)

Rayana,
I'm so happy you liked it! I acutually never even thought of her smacking Mich. LOL! Thanks for reading Butterfly too!

I have a couple questions for you two: 1. The prom - was it realistic? I've never been to a prom, so I wasn't sure. 2. Do you like the title "No Matter (in which I thought it mattered tremendously)" or do you have ideas for something better?

Thanks again you gals! You are awesome!

Lai

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments I just wanted to let you all know (since you've been so kind to read some of my writing!) that I added another short story I wrote for the Weekly Short Stories Contest and Company! group. The topic was "death" and I won first place!

You can view Snowflakes From Heaven here:
http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/4...

message 607: by Snow (new)

Snow (kdskid007) My answer to your first question is: No idea, but it seemed real enough to me. I've never been to prom either, so can't really help there. And I like the title too, it kinda fits the story.

message 608: by Snow (new)

Snow (kdskid007) Elaine, that was amazing. If anyone ever tries to tell you your writing sucks, mentally smack them, cuz they're dead wrong.

message 609: by [deleted user] (new)

no kidding, your stuff rocks!

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments LOL! Thanks Snow! If I ever need an ego boost I'll come to you. =D

Alrighty, so April was an "off" month, I'm ready to getting back to writing everyday. I really need to write an essay for school, so maybe I'll try to do that today and see what else I can do.

Daily Goal: Achieved!

And I still need help on the analogy essay! Any ideas?

message 624: by Snow (new)

Snow (kdskid007) umm... well, you could do an analogy of... life to a butterfly, or something... analogies are kinda like similies and metaphores, right?

Awesome word count, Lai! Unfortunately I'm not very good with coming up with things to write about.... Hmmm.... I'll think on it, though. *ponders*

message 626: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm not at all good at deciding on what to write about! Yeah, the point of the essay is to describe or explain a complicated, difficult or unfamiliar subject by relating it to something familiar to the reader. I could describe something by relating it to the life of a butterfly...just can't think of what!

message 627: by Paige (new)

Paige Miller | 4362 comments Oh, gosh...

message 628: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments I know! Okay, I had an idea that I could explain Horse Racing Handicapping, but I'm still thinking about it...Thoughts are more than welcome!

Hey Lai,

Remember, that even when you are not "writing" you are still working on your stories. "Imagination writing" still counts :]

Wishing you a very productive weekend!

message 633: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments Paige, Yay! I'm so excited to check out your writing! I don't have time tonight, but I'll read it soon, promise! Thanks so much for checking out some of my writing, let me know what you think!

Dee, Yeah, lately I've been really busy, but in between moments I've really been doing a lot of brain storming (or at least I feel I have). I've started this story about a gymnast. At first it didn't even have a plot. Thanks so some people on GoodReads (!!!) I now have a plot that I'm very excited about, but I realized something: I don't know enough about the behind the scenes of gymnastics so I'm planning on doing a lot of research. Any ideas?

Lai

I was blown-away by Snowflakes from Heaven.

Your writing is amazing. You articulate emotional issues with grace and dignity.

Your stories have left me without words to express how impressed I am with your writing.

Thank you! Both for reading my writing and for the kind, sweet words! I'm so happy that you liked it! I'm considering posting more of Voices/Never Alone. Sometimes I don't like the idea of posting so much of my writing in such a public place, but then other times I'm fine with it. =| I'll let you know if I do!

Thank you for all of you updates! I haven't gotten a chance to read any yet, but I will! =)

Ooh! Yes! A gymnast! Do you mind if I pick your brains a bit? I know the basic things - it's more the in depth, behind-behind-the-scenes, type stuff that I want to get right. I'll post a synopsis of my plot and try to think up some specific questions soon, if you don't mind.

Thank you so much Dee! I think that "thank you" is used too often and therefore loses some of it's genuineness and deepness. I think there should be another word for such cases as theses. Somehow you always seem to find the right ones (even when you're without them, lol). Sometimes I read my writing and wonder about it, but your kind enthusiasm will keep me writing! And with all of your (and other's) feedback, I learn my strengths. I know as long as I can write on death or loss, I'll be okay. lol! Thank you! =D

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments Tink

Thanks for basket of treats! I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend and hoping that next week isn't quite so busy (though I know it will be busy, but I can always hope for the quite so part). No problem with judging, hope you thought my scoring system was okay. I'm planning to start working on a piece for the next contest. I couldn't think of anything real good, and then something came to me. I'm excited about it, but the problem, see, is that it won't let me catch it. I think it's like a butterfly though, if I run after it, it will only get away, but if I just stop, stand still and really think about it, it will land on my. Or at least that's what I'm hoping. =)

message 639: by Elaine (last edited May 24, 2009 10:23AM) (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) | 1020 comments I wrote a poem today! (I have been writing a bit and I'll post word counts again soon). I thought I'd share it:

Little Girls In Pointed Shoes

by Elaine

Golden rods clasped with tiny hands
Innocent faces reflected on the mirror's surface
Little girls in pinks, blacks, and tans
Stand ready, toes pointed

Music floats gently through the air
Skinny arms glide, playing with the notes
Roseate cheeks convey concentration and care
The beat issuing itself into the young hearts

Bright eyes stare ahead, a sea of browns, blues, and greens
Hands tighten on the rod, waiting
More emotions began to weave into the simple theme
At last the slippered feet move outward

Dazzling shafts of sunlight blazon the tiled floor
An ethereal silence amid the tinkle of music and patter of feet
Small faces turned upward, shining evermore
Little lungs breathing in the sweet air

The last of the strains of melody play
Tiny feet return to their places and then the arms
Innocents pure in the sun's penetrating ray
Little girls in tutus and pointed shoes

Glad you liked the poem! =D I wrote it for a contest, but didn't win. Oh, well.

As far as the gymnastics story - I will post an overview soon and let you know so I can get all the info you can offer. =D

Yes, I'm seriously considering putting more of Voices/Never Alone up here - at least for a while. I will let you know if I do.
