Ed | 67 comments I think the week I am going to experience life without the tv on will start the Monday after the Super Bowl. I'll start a thread to talk about the experience..hope to get more reading, family activities completed during that week. Anyone else want to try it for that week. It's not cheating to dvr/tape shows for later that run that week. I'm not against tv or anything like that...I just want to see what a week would be like without the tube. I've enjoyed all the responses from others about how enjoyable it can be and I know from past experiences when we've stayed in national parks without the tv that we actually enjoyed the quiet. We will see. Hope others join and share their thoughts. The day after the Super Bowl is Monday, February 2nd. What do others think? I'll send reminders if others are interested.

S. Kay (cobwebs) | 5 comments I'm up for it. It's something I actually try to do once in a while, just because I live in a house where someone's always watching something and it can be a bit of an overload.

I notice that I get more irritated with the constant noise when I consciously try to avoid it, rather than allowing it to suck me in. Just need to stay calm this time around.

Kait (katiebear) I usually only watch TV when I knit, as I find knitting to be fairly boring and want something else to stimulate my mind. Sadly, I can't seem to knit and read like other people I know. So I don't think I'll join you, but definitely applaud your efforts!

Jerrod (liquidazrael) | 58 comments I already do this, it's very liberating. Hell I don't even posses cable and haven't purchased a converter box yet either. I think everyone should attempt this at least once. Good luck, I've been saving 60$ a month since I stopped watching the crap we call televised entertainment.

Jackie (thelastwolf) I've spend most of my life without watching TV. Not until I left NYC and moved Upstate 8 years ago did I ever turn the TV on. Now, however, I am addicted to it and wouldn't want to give it up. Besides, Feb 2nd is when Heroes comes back, I wouldn't miss that for the world, LOL
Seriously, though, no TV is great, you get more things done. I don't work so I have lots of free time to read and get my things done. When I was working full time when I first moved here, I'd only watch about an hour or two of TV, the rest of the night was spent reading. If I were working right now, I'd join you. But since I'm not, I do need other things to break up my day.
I'm interested to know the results of this experiment.

Laurel I'm willing to give it a try. Count me in!

Ed | 67 comments No rules...or you can make your own rules. that's fine...it's up to you. Also, I plan on dvr'ing (is that a verb) the couple of "can't miss" shows and watch them later--I just want to see what a week without tv would be like. I think it will be fun and interesting.
