Nimrod God (nimrodgod) | 273 comments I realize that Tigana is the June pick and the S&L vlog to finish up Hyperion has not been done yet, but how soon do we get to start discussing the next book on the list? I've found myself highlighting a few things I want to talk about already!

Also, what does a Discussion leader do? Not sure if I am up to the task, but that's how much I am enjoying Tigana... lol

Just wondering!

Paul (latepaul) Hopefully not for a while yet - I only just started Hyperion. I will have finished it by the end of the month but by then if everyone's moved on to the next book...

Nimrod God (nimrodgod) | 273 comments LOL I figured that's why it has yet to be opened up, Just wasn't sure if it was around the time the second vlog episode of the month is released or if it was at the beginning of the month.

Was also curious as to what a discussion leader did, so figured I'd ask both :-)

Marz | 39 comments The vlog comes up every other Friday. It alternates with Tabletop. :)

Kim | 477 comments I think there shouldn't be any discussions til June begins. If you're got things to talk about just write them down for when the discussions start. There's not really much point of having a monthly book read then starting it half way through the previous month.

Yes, I saw that, I was just wondering if the discussions opened up after the second ep of the month or at the first of the month.

I agree, just wasn't sure if this was official.

Like I said though, also wanted to know about the discussion leaders and what they did.

terpkristin | 4407 comments Books start on the first of the month and officially end on the last. They usually kickoff the book on the first video show of the month and wrap it up on the last. Of course you can start talking early but you might not have much company, especially with this one that looks like a bunch are skipping and it's not easily e-available.

With Hyperion, the official start was May 1 but people started talking way early. I personally got frustrated by that as I was still on the previous book but it has ended up working out ok, as there is still plenty of discussion ongoing. Worked less well with The Magicians.

Yep, me too, but I know others feel differently. Luckily we have all types in this group.

That makes sense to me, Just the newbie trying to see how it all works around here! :-)

Usually, discussion leaders start the topics of discussion for the books and keep things moving.

Here, though, it seems to be a free-for-all discussion method. Which leaves the Discussion Leader as maybe just an honorary thing. Maybe they can get a free S&L bookmark or some swag or something?

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments What happens when the first video show is on the 8th of the Month - do they start talking about it on the 25th of this month? Or do they use the podcasts as well to "kick off."

message 12: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments Yes there is quite often discussion on the audio podcast, too. But I think they're really working in the video stuff so even if they kick it off on the audio version, they seem to (this video thing is new) still do a bit of a kickoff on the video show, too. This KIND OF happened when they did The Magicians, since the first video show was mid-April. But this book a month and hows/whens is new to all of us here, as it only started mid-April.

Nimrod God (nimrodgod) | 273 comments @terpkristin, Ah! I did not know that was a new aspect of the S&L! Thanks!
