message 4: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Hale (brandon_hale) | 45 comments Chris Lee is a great answer, I agree. I think for me, it's that Glick kid from the book 'Salem's Lot. If you haven't read it, let me just say that kid will make you avoid dark windows for years...

You know, I would have to retract that statement anyway because I am not certain of all these sparkly vampires. They seem like a bunch of whiners to me... not that I have spent any time investigating this...just gagged my way through a couple of movie trailers.

Trust me, it's Louis who's the whiny vamp (if you remember the film). You should read Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat - they are really good and absolutely nothing like the sparkely vampires, trust me - for i truly loathe sparkely vamps :)

Actually, Rita, I have read more Anne Rice than I care to admit and have favorited "Interview...". If I remember right Lestat was the whiny bitch who dug himself into a hole for a couple of centuries and emerged after hearing rock music to go on and become a rock star in one of the campiest vampire books ever written. Anne Rice jumped the shark with Lestat and sadly kept jumping, jumping, jumping with each successive book. Not a fan!

Have you seen "Shadow of the Vampire" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0189998/) with John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe? Worth watching if you are a Max Shreck fan!

Salems Lot by Stephen King. That vampire emobodies what vampires are.. heartless, cold and dead. They don't sparkle and could care less if you cry or scream; they just want to rip your throat out. :)

..let me in....

message 20: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) I just read a review of Dark Shadows in another thread. So Barnabas Colins is what comes to mind.

message 29: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Alright so since I wrote on the Zombies and Werewolves topics I figured I'll go for a trifecta and I will use em all and make a blog about them and post it on here and my site :D.

When I hear the word Vampire the first thing that comes to mind is Dracula, the king of all Vampires. I then think of Bram Stoker and Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration behind Dracula. I then think of Bela Lugosi playing Dracula and then finally think of Anne Rice's Vampire Series. Again Twilight aside( I don't find this to be a serious take on Vampires) Vampires are those creatures where we have actually seen their evolution from hungry lusting creatures to passionate immortals who long to fill the gaping void of loneliness. There are different kinds of Vampires but only one kind of Zombie. So when I hear Vampire I think mostly of an immortal being who may not exactly have that first instinct to kill but rather look for companionship.
