suddenly, I was jolted back as something shoved me behind it.

I let out a yell of terror as I was pulled back, back away from the fowl beast.

the beast tried to move closer but the thing infront of me stood its ground. I quickly strained my eyes to see the creature that stood gaurd, it was not human.

"Just what do you think you're doing, Cirus?" the second beast rapped out in a raspy voice, the voice a lot more smoother than the first's.

[Agony]

for a moment, a silence passed that seemed to last an eternity. Finaly, the first beast spoke. "what does it look like?" he snarled sarcasticly.

[Agony]

A raspy growl rose from his throat.

His beastly eyes staring menacingly.

"Don't try to stop me, brother," said the first, "not this time."

"Does it look like I'm going to tempt it, brother, my pal?" the other said in a calmly fashion, all anger hidden under a thoroughly cold layer; although he looked calm, he was inwardly boiling over with rage as he asked, "So, what were you planning to do with him, anyway?"

"I'm going to tell him the truth, you fool!"

"Th-The truth about what?!" I managed to (manly) squeaked out, not sure if they had heard me.

This brought both of their attention back to me, and each suddenly looked as though he would like nothing more than to do me great harm.

I backed away in alarm, fumbling behind me in an attempt to get up without taking my eyes off of those terrifying beasts.

"I've got a better idea, brother," said the first; "We'll fight for him."

"As tempting as it sounds to beat your face bloody against the wall, Aniki," the second one replied with a snapping of sharp teeth, "you know the Law forbids us, of the same Kin, from killing one another in conflict."

At this point, seizing my chance, I began to slowly back away from the two of them.

While the two monstrosities were arguing, I turned tail and ran as fast as I could.

Until I tripped over a decomposing carcass - to which species was unrecognizable - and face planted in the dirt.

I felt bile coat my tongue.

It tasted nasty and bitter; as I stumbled my way back up and ran past the horrendous sight, I dared not glance back.

It was then that I realized, with a sense of horror, that the two behemoths had given chase.

Their growls came after me. Aggressive and sharp, full of menace.
I sprinted through the forest, breath coming in short bursts of fog and I ducked behind a tree, clambering up it into the highest branches. I slapped my palm over my mouth to mask the sound of my puffing.

Looking down I saw both of the creature pause at the trunk, snuffling slowly.
