Little Women
question
Which character can you most compare yourself to?Why?

I personally can compare my self to the spirit of Jo and her love of books and creative writing, but I can also compare myself to Amy for her feministic approach to life and her want for the luxuries in life (SHOCK! :O)
Do you think Louisa May Alcott based one of the characters on herself? Which one?

I'm a cross between Jo and Beth - I'm creative like Jo and I have a bad temper like her too. :-) I'm shy and introverted like Beth, and I'm a homebody. I would love to be as good as Beth.

I can certainly relate to Jo more than any other character I have read about. I have a firey temper exactly like her and I adore books. I am always reading (even if I am really slow at it) and I love writing. I have started and not yet completed so many novels. I should really get a move on with. But literally Jo is just the fictional version of me. I am exactly the same as her.
I love Jo for her spirit. We share a love of books and writing and creativity. She is what I aspire to.
However I personally relate more to Beth-the shy introverted girl who was not afraid of death because she never had plans for the future.

When I was a young teen, I had 3 close friends. One of those friends decided to nickname each of us after one of the sisters... I was Jo. I don't recall what my friend's exact reasoning was for choosing as she did, but I think she mentioned something about me being "book crazy" & a bit of a tomboy. :oP

I have always loved Meg for her strenght and leveheadedness, as well as her loving ways and responsibility.
I've always thought of myself as Amy, because I tend to like nicer things and dealt with a lot of the same things she did when she was younger. I also like Laurie the best :)
But I also see a lot of Meg and Jo in me, too. As Sarah said earlier, I think we all have a little bit of Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth in us at one point or another.

mostly Jo. I am not a "girly girl" I would have hated wearing dresses all the time. back then. maybe a bit of Meg because i was the oldest in my family.
I love Mother March. I want to be like her! I want to give my girls the strands of wisdom she gives her girls through wise words and tests to show them their erring ways. But what I loved most was how much she loved her family and how she wanted the best for her "Little Women". Just beautiful!

I recall reading something about this and Louisa May Alcott based the character of Jo on herself.
Growing up, think I had Jo's tomboy nature in me, with a touch of Beth's gentleness/considerate nature.
Love, love, love Little Women! My friends and I used to have this discussion too, 'which character are you?'

Probably Jo, because I want to be a writer.
Jodie wrote: "I personally can compare my self to the spirit of Jo and her love of books and creative writing, but I can also compare myself to Amy for her feministic approach to life and her want for the luxuri..."
She said herself she was Jo.

jo because all i wanna do is muck about like boys but my friends dont allways wanna although i like to be and look girly most of the time. and i share her passion for writing and reading and even more so than she. and despite that she was a women she always did hard graft and was strong like a boy and i'm not sure if i am but i like to think i am and see myself as that person.
although i really dont like who she marries!
although meg sometimes because she likes to look after people and she is always faithful when it comes to believing in true love but for wanting the finer things i couldn't care less!

The only character I didn't identify with was Meg, the responsible one. As a child, I was painfully shy, like Beth. Like Amy, I'm a youngest child, a bit self-absorbed, and definitely spoiled. And like Jo, I love to read and wanted to be a writer.
I'm both Jo and Amy. I have Jo's quick temper and her love for books and Amy's passion for art.
I think I'm a lot like Meg, especially when I was younger. I'm the oldest of four sisters, like Meg, and I always identified with her personality the most. But I'm also like Jo in my "bookishness." I loved this book when I was growing up, and have read it several times since then. I remember looking at it longingly at the public library for the longest time until my grandmother finally decided that I was old enough to check it out -- I think I was about 11 at the time. I still remember exactly what it looked like -- it had a light green hard cover!
Jo. Creative, independent thinker, outspoken. First read this at age 8 with a friend in grade school; we would each read one page aloud. Huh, my first book club.
I relate most to Jo and Beth. My natural inclination is being quiet and reserved, enjoying listening to others and their thoughts and perspectives. But when i feel strongly about something(books!! writing!) I get really chatty and can't seem to stop talking about literature, authors, and etc( like Jo). At other times, again, when i feel strongly about something, I am determined and a bit stubborn. This can be a gift in the right times, but a curse in others!! Also, growing up, i was very much a Tom boy, like Jo.
