2. Take inspiration from an old photo. Find one in your photo album, and describe it.
Something that really helps for me is writing a short story using a new word I've learned as much as I can. I know, it's weird, but it comes up with some really funny stories. Here's an excerpt from one.
She had the wont of biting her fingernails. Many people had that wont, but it was an incredibly potent wont with her.

Kay, sorta stealing this from Uglies, but:
A plague starts spreading through oil. Then through technology. What does mankind do?
Mankind screams and runs in circles. Then grows a tail and gets distracted, and chases the tail. Then the plague kills everbody before they can even notice.

And or we hold huge top-secret government councils who spend so much time arguing that nothing gets done and we all die before a decision is chosen.
