Bonnie I couldn't get into The Soldier's Wife for some reason so put it aside, but now can't think what to replace it with. It actually was a WW-II story anyway.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I haven't been able to come up with anything yet.

I am checking to see if I can use The Sun Also Rises as my "live" bookclub does a classic every year, so I could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Jackie (thenightowl) Losing Julia is a good one. I don't think I nominated it for this group, but we read it for my HF group and everyone really enjoyed it. It's not a typical war romance either, which I liked.

Edited- never mind on that rec. I misread the thread and thought you were looking for WWII not WWI. Still a good book though not what you're looking for! lol

Lauren Reed | 3 comments I am going to read Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War by Sebastian Faulks.

message 6: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I'll look into that one too. Is it already a shelf book or are you going to recommend adding it?

message 7: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Do the bonus books have to be shelved for this group?

message 8: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I think we can read them first and then nominate them, but eventually, books for the challenge need to be on the shelves.

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (beckee12) I plan on reading Look to the East for my WWI pick. Right now I'm reading Those Who Save Us it's set during WWII and the present, but the book I plan on reading for the challenge is The Soldier's Wife. I guess we shall see...

message 10: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Those who save us is on my TBR list too, although not for this challenge. I picked The Baker's Daughter for my WW-II book.

message 11: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie ps- I attempted reading The Soldier's Wife, but stopped. It wasn't bad, just didn't catch my interest. It was too much like The Guernsey Potato.. book, which I loved, but with characters I didn't like and no humor.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I found a historical mystery series set in WWI that I think I will try. It's by Charles Todd. So I can read it and then request that it be shelved and it will work for the challenge?

message 13: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie If it "makes the cut". You may read it and find it doesn't have historical content or enough romance, but if you like it, you have still enjoyed a new series, so no loss.

I did not see it in the WWI section. I'm kinda new at this. How do you recommend adding it?

message 15: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (slkenn79) There is a recommendations thread. You can post the book there after you have read it if you feel it meets the romantic historical fiction criteria.

Hi Leslie- Yes, as long as it also has a romance!

message 18: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Thanks! I'm not sure if it has a romance, but I'm going to find out:=}

message 19: by Louise (new)

Louise I have just read the first two Maisie Dobbs mysteries and loved them.

Shelley | 22 comments My writing is post-WWI, but the more history I read, the more impressed I am that World War I, more than any other, seems to have broken the heart of its world.
