Introducing Characters and Teasers of a new series by a new author

For new authors (indie in this case) or even just a new book series, should the author introduce their characters via a character profile, and small teasers along with each character, to their followers (if they have a following base) prior to the 1st book's publication, to help build interest and potential reader base? Pros and cons of doing so? Thanks for your thoughts.
