Rationale

My diligent search began upon browsing through a myriad selection of award-winning books which were found on various websites. I encountered several interesting books that piqued my interest, but was unable to decide the one I would choose. I then continued to browse for more books, and after numerous attempts, I received a recommendation from a friend. I browsed through the web and did some research on the background behind the book that was introduced. What surprised me was that the illustrations of the book had a contradictory effect to the title that was engraved onto the front page. What I expected was a pleasant, straightforward and tranquil environment but there was a twist; instead it was completely contrary to my expectations. The hidden meaning in the title fuelled my curiosity tremendously. It led me into exploring the book further. Finally, I decided to read several excerpts from the text and they were quite gloomy and depressing indeed.

The book "The Kite Runner" piqued my interest with its occult illustrations which gave the common perception that it took place during a different era, but in fact, it is based on real events happening in the cotemporary society. The title page illustration represented a dilapidated and desolated city that is in ruins, probably caused by some kind of havoc. The theme the cover generated beckoned my attention since I prefer dark, depressing, enigmatic and dystopic novels that are action-packed or contain some violence, as it provides plenty of suspense as well as entertainment to hook a reader's attention. The positive reviews fortified my decisions further as they matched my interests with the depressing and touching environment of people in its society, as well as the amount of people that enjoyed the book. Overall, I was satisfied with my decision and will be reading this book soon.
