Rikki | 25 comments My sister's sort of and editor and she edits what I write and given me some great advice. Don't write to please others even if it looks like the right thing to do. Whenever authors do this it's always over done and unoriginal or rushed. Instead, write to please yourself; someones bound to like it. The point to an aspiring writer is to make it your own. I'm no professional by far but I do know it takes some gut to accept criticism. Don't take it as offense but consider the suggested change. You're not the only one.

Oh, and you're welcome to read some of my writing!

You gotta get tough, because it's hard for a first time author to get a foot on the ladder. Finding an Agent is one of the hardest things, but essential so you have to persevere. Hell even JK Rowling had her first Harry Potter book rejected by over one hundred different Agents!

If it's any encouragement, one of my favorite Stephen King quotes is, "It takes about ten years of hard work to become an overnight success." Don't give up. Just keep chugging away. Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Yes he had problems getting published to start with too, and D H Lawrence and a whole host of others.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Don't mention it, we all have to suffer the initiation period, and that only a small number of us will make it through the slush piles onto the bestseller list.

Never, ever, let it get you down, just switch on your computer and start on the next novel, and repeat to yourself one day it will be my turn.

Jp (themightyguest) | 37 comments Just keep throwing darts. Eventually something's bound to stick.

At who? I would like to throw darts at the person that drove into my dog yeterday afternoon, and when they saw me arrive they drove off. He's badly shook up, grazed, bruised and battered but nothings broken!

Thanks Sara, we hope he is going to be okay too, he's eating and drinking and that's always a good sign. The vet gave him antibiotics to stave off any infection and I have been cleaning his bobos with iodine.

Anne Mikusinsi (abghostwriter) | 8 comments Yes, you do, ultimately have to write for yourself, but trust be told, you also have to write what people want to get your foot in the door. Either way, you will find out a lot about yourself once you start putting your stuff out there, and that's how I learned if I was truly a writer or not.
Turns out, I am. :)

Eugenia davidson (mrsbunny12) | 17 comments I am still writing and I have founded this group of local writers and we are getting a group together to have a book signing in North Carolina...We have a site to go on to promote your book and maybe signup for the book signing.

Sherri Moorer (sherrithewriter) Don't feel bad. I completely understand that frustration. I got so frustrated, in fact, that I actually quit twice. For all the good it did, as I obviously came back to it. Keep the faith and be patient. It will work together and you'll get a grip on it soon. It's just slow - it took me 10 years to get off the ground, and I'm still working at it!

Anne Mikusinsi (abghostwriter) | 8 comments Frustration is fine, but constant whining about it, at least I've found, is another way of stalling. Discipline is needed as it is with anything else.
Writing is work, and writing is a job. For me, it's a vocation. I try to write something every day, even if it's a blog entry, a poem, or maybe even a paragraph. Plus, think of it this way. If you're not writing you can't complain about other books that are out there. If you think you can do better, go forth and write!

Very true, and if you are published everything that follows is a bonus!
