Challenge Rules and Twist Options

Welcome back all you history buffs! The Historical Fiction Reading Challenge is back for 2009 and this year it's bigger and better thanks to all of your wonderful suggestions. This challenge, previously hosted by Annie at Reading, Writing & Ranting will now by hosted by Royal Reviews(Annie reviews under The Fussy Princess). To sign up officially, head to http://theroyalreviews.blogspot.com/2... and post your name and blog if applicable to the comments section. There are a few buttons you can download to display on your blog. Otherwise, you are welcome to participate from Goodreads only.

Many of you said you enjoyed the simplicity and flexibility of the last challenge but agreed it was probably too long. Some of you wanted a theme and others didn't. And most of you loved the Hotties of History Challenge Buttons :-)

So this is how it's going to work:

Read 3 historical fiction books in 3 months from 1st Jan 09 - 31st March 09.

Historical fiction will be counted as anything set or written prior to World War II. This will include classic novels, time travel novels or anything you feel fits the genre.

For an extra bit of fun, you can choose to participate in one of the following themes:

- The Royal Twist - Read 3 based on or inspired by 3 different royals. Emporers, Queens, Kings whatever inspires you!

- The Twilight Twist - Read a selection of 3 of the classic novels that inspired the Twilight Saga. There's Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Romeo Juliet by Shakespeare, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte or A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare.

There will also be giveaways associated with this challenge so keep your eyes pealed.

Somehow I missed this group last year! I am a huge fan of old, musty classics, so this is right up my alley! I look forward to starting my first book! Hmmm...what to read, what to read? So many good ones.

Last year this group was hosted via a Yahoo group and on my personal blog. Seeing as myself and the two other moderators have all become Goodreads addicts, it seemed like the perfect tool to host the discussion.

For my first book I'm going to read one of Susan Holloway Scott's books, maybe Duchess, A Novel of Sarah Churchill. Susan writes very easy to read historical novels.

I just joined GoodReads in February. I have already read two of three books 1) Someone Knows My Name and 2) Signora da Vinci. Please tell me if you feel #1 counts. Be honest! If it does not count, I will read two others. Goodness knows, I have plenty around to pick up and read. Update - 03/10/2009 - I completed the challenge - with The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Great challenge! Happy Reading Everyone.
