Scott Bell | 9 comments Hello, fellow groupies. I'm expanding my Goodreads horizons, and a DFW book club sounds like the right place.

A reader for 40 years and now a writer for four, I'd love to visit with fellow book lovers.

Michael | 1 comments Hi! Just got a degree from the school I went to! Now more time to read. I like Rothfuss, Gaiman, and Salvatore's "Forgotten Realms". I like other stuff too. That's why I'm here, for the recommendations.

message 54: by Jayna (new)

Jayna (jaynarg) Hello!
My name is Jayna. I'm currently living in the Parker County/Weatherford area. I've been a life long reader. I have always enjoyed reading and grew up being read to. I'm hooked on the A Song of Ice and Fire series currently(on book 5), the books the HBO series Game of Thrones is based off of. I dabble in a bit of everything, YA, horror, a little romance, history, sci fi, fantasy...Really everything except for the mystery genre. I'm here to meet new people and get some friends. I've been on Goodreads for a long time and I have NO friends! ):

Tommy Attaway (tommyattaway) | 2 comments Tommy here - also an avid life long reader. My main interest is history and historical fiction.

Due to an interesting set of circumstances, I have written a novel, which recently became available.

message 57: by Matthew (new)

Matthew | 1 comments Hey all,

My name is Matthew and I just moved to Dallas- on the border of Dallas and Collin counties. I've been reading for as long as I remember. I average 2-3 books a week, although that fizzles out every so often when I run out of good things to read (or money to buy books). I read a lot of fantasy and literary fiction. Lately, I've been reading some magical realism type things.

Nice to (kind of) meet everyone.

BeeSquid (squidbee) | 2 comments Nice to meet you, Matthew. Welcome to the group. I read a lot of fantasy as well. What are you currently reading?

message 59: by BronteC. (new)

BronteC. | 2 comments Hello. Shelfari transplant with my "shelf" currently in transit. :) My shelf at home consists of topics ranging from pet care and behavior to David Starkey's 'Elizabeth'. One of my current favorites is The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, and I am currently re-reading Cutting for Stone for the umpteenth time. My recent trip to NOLA has fostered an obsession with Ms. Marie and the sociopolitical climate of her time -as well as their mad hunt to find a cure for Yellow Fever. My guilty pleasures are Anita Blake and anything by Dan Brown. And at the top of my fantasy dinner invite list would include Carl Sagan, Leonardo da Vinci, and Maya Angelou. Like everyone, I work and try to find time for pleasure reading when I can. The reason why I joined a local group was to stay in-the-know with local events and support DFW as a 'Literary City'. By fostering local support to encourage city leaders to continue to develop the idea of creating a literary "Third Place" for the thinking citizens of DFW, it directly benefits the cultural perception of the area in a positive light. This idea is directly based on Ray Oldenburg's The Great Good Place. Please take a moment to add it to your reading list if you have never explored his ideas on community development. Glad to be a part of this group. :)

Dee | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm new to this site/app. I've always loved to read but stopped a few years ago due to super busy life style and kiddos. But now I have time to actually sit and read and I'd like to get back in the game. So far I have read all of the books of the Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. And a few Joel Osteen books. So decided to join some book clubs to up my game on some good reads. Hope you'll have a great week!

message 61: by Scott (new)

Scott E | 17 comments Welcome North and Dee. Dee, this is a great site. I've been on here for a while and love tracking the books I've read and the books I want to read. There are some great groups as well. Have fun and keep us posted on your reading pleasure.

Dick Hoffman | 3 comments Assuming this thing will add my name. If not, it's Dick Hoffman. I moved to Addison in the prior millennium, retired from real estate appraising three years ago, had been writing part-time, now sending my work out into the cold, cruel world. Just added my novel as ebook The Belinda Triangle to GoodReads. Assuming you can find it on GR by title, otherwise it's at https://books2read.com/TheBelindaTria.... It's set in the near future and only 99 cents this weekend. Would appreciate any reviews. I'm almost finished reading The Girl on the Train and will let you know what I think.

message 63: by D.H. (new)

D.H. Jonathan | 1 comments Hello all, my name is Dan. Goodreads switched my account name to my pen name when I became a "Goodreads author". I am the author of The "Volunteer".

Of course, I have been a reader all my life, started especially with Edgar Rice Burroughs in my middle school years. When I ran out of his Tarzan books, I moved to John Carter of Mars and other series. I started reading Stephen King in high school and have kept up with him ever since.

Lately, I've been reading past Pulitzer Prize winners (although not exclusively as I'm just finishing White Noise: by Don Delillo). I think I've read over 40 of them now. I'm about to start The Caine Mutiny.

message 64: by Dick (new)

Dick Hoffman | 3 comments The only reason I read The Girl on the Train is because a friend wanted my opinion on it. I won't spoil it for you, except to say that it's the kind of story I don't like, with key information withheld from the reader until the end. About halfway through, I realized I didn't care for any of the characters, so the rest of the way was a long wait for something---anything---to happen. When it finally did, it was unsurprising and not worth the slog, IMHO. Somebody please tell me what I missed in this runaway bestseller.

Julia | 4 comments Hello!

I'm Julia. Ever since I was a kid I've always had a book with me. I like History books, Biography, the Classics and some modern fiction and fantasy. Basically I like anything that is intellectually stimulating. I'm currently on the lookout for history books that delve into the politics of the time. Any suggestions?

message 66: by Sting (new)

Sting Good morning and Hello! Unfortunately I do not have any history recommendations for you. I mostly read fiction and things that are considered brain-candy. I do not know if this group is active anymore, I don't receive many notifications from it but I am always looking for active members to friend if you're interested in following each other!

message 67: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Attaway (tommyattaway) | 2 comments In which periods and places do you have an interest? I'm a historian and author, so I might be able to make a suggestion or two.

message 68: by S.T. (new)

S.T. Sanchez | 3 comments New to the group. I am an avid reader and author. I love Texas! Just started reading Dracula. Always looking for new books to read;)

Hi Tommy, The French Revolution is always fascinating, as well as Russian History. I just finished the History of Rome podcast, so something more in depth from that period would be interesting too. Also I unfortunately received a typical Euro-centric perspective from the American education system, so my knowledge of the History of Latin America, Asia and Africa is sparse. I would love opportunities to correct this though!

Welcome! Dracula is a really good one! I find it funny that with all the film adaptations out there, the closest one to the book is "Dracula Dead and Loving it" by Mel Brooks.

Ghost in the Stacks Is this group active?
