I hadn't heard of this one yet. I think it's brand new. It's also going to be a trilogy so I'm pretty excited about a new Juliet Marillier series!
Just found out: this gem is coming out September 11th. It sounds amazing...now how do I obtain an ARC copy...
I had heard she was working on another series. I want an ARC too! Let me know if you figure out how to get one ;)
Hi guys! You can see my review of Shadowfell on my blog where I'm hosting an international giveaway (courtesy of Juliet) to win a signed copy of Shadowfell.

I really liked this book, but...I got told it was aimed at younger readers, whereas the sevenwaters and bridie books are aimed at older readers. This made sense to me as after I finished reading shadowfell I was kind of disappointed about how short it was. I feel like all the things Neryn does and all the people she encounters could have been expanded. Even the trip she takes could have had more things happen, especially when Flint leaves her in the cave and she encounters the guardian, it just left me wishing the book was longer.
Please dont get me wrong, I really did like this book alot, I just didnt love it like some of the other books.
I was so excited for this book that I ordered it as an ebook, which I never, ever do. Usually I just buy J.M. books right away, because I know I'll love them. This one, though, I'm kind of glad I got as an ebook. It was... short. I agree with Clare, I feel like everything happened so quickly and the characters seemed a little superficial. I got through it in a day though, so it kept me hooked enough. But I got to the end and didn't even realize it was the end. I kept trying to go to the next page. I feel like it ended really abruptly. The ending point made sense, but was a little choppy. A good book, but doesn't really stand up to J.M.'s reputation, I think.
im so glad you had the same thoughts as me anna! i thought it was just going to be me thinking it was short.
I went into it knowing it was YA amd so expecting a shorter, YA version of J.M.'s work and I feel like that's what I got, so I wasn't disappointed. I think it will feel better after reading the whole series, though. I think it'll be a good book for her to reach YA audiences who haven't been introduced to her yet, but I agree that I like the length and depth of her adult novels more. Shadowfell was like my little JM snack before Flame of Sevenwaters comes out lol.
I was a little disappointed by this book. I have read all her books, and this one did keep my interest as the others did. I knew it was YA and loved her Wildwood Dancing and Cybels Secret, but this one was not as good. I will still read the rest of the series when it comes out.
The book is short but I decided to think of it as just the first volume instead of the first book. Unlike Marillier's other series where each book has a self contained story within a larger design, this one just told the first part of a story (well this is just my opinion). I really liked the device of having a girl with a quest story, so often it is the boy with the quest and the girl is just helping him. I am really looking forward to what happens to Flint. I found him very interesting. (SPOILER) He reminded me of Finbar in a way although Finbar's healing with the mind was very different.
As always, I loved the book. I adjusted my expectations to a shorter version as a YA novel, and am really looking forward to traveling further with Neryn!

I was a bit disappointed with the pacing of the story. It was like reading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" with all the camping, but instead it was (view spoiler) I can not wait for

I totally agree Helena! I'm really hoping for some strong character development for the both of them! Although, I still enjoyed Shadowfell, it just needs some more depth!
