Jacalyn | 454 comments Last year I counted Treasure Island. I'm sure I read it at some point as a kid, but I don't remember when. I figured, that long ago, it should totally count again. Why not, it's a book read. I also count audiobooks. If it's a book, and it gets done, it gets counted. I even counted a Jim Butcher graphic novel for my count this month. I'm at 21 and going. I banged out three audiobooks and am nearly done with a fourth in the last week. Yay for evil wallpaper of doom!

It is kind of fun to see how much you read in a year. I think you'll enjoy seeing your total go up! It is kind of surprising.

In 11th grade we were doing that "preparing for college admissions" stuff and they told us that some colleges actually ask for every book you read outside of school, so I kept a list. I read over 100 books that year. (No small feat considering I worked part time, was in band, danced a zillion hours a week, worked on the newspaper staff, and a bunch of other things.) No one I know ended up with that on a college admission thing. Oh well.

I didn't start tracking again until a couple of years ago when a friend tried to read 100 in one year (she did and got into our paper!) and thought it would be fun to track mine as well.

I count re-reads. Sometimes I don't remember that I've already read a book til I start it. Other times, I re-read a book simply because I love it so much. Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is on my "regularily re-read" list. So are a not of Andre Norton's books. (Ok, I admit it--I'm a hugh fan of Andre's) Also some of Anne MacCaffrey's books are definately worth re-reading. And Agatha Christie. And, and, and . . . .

Barbara ★ 2008 - 216 books, 78,592 pgs

Interestingly enough, I can only track 4 months of 2007 and that was 162 books. If 162 was only 1/3 of the year, I figure I actually read over 400 books in 2007. My reading has dropped off dramatically since I can no longer afford to spend $100 a month on books. Phooey!

So far 60 in 2009, I expect to read around 300 this year. 21,778 pages so far this year.
