Tamahome | 7220 comments The next book should be scientifiction.

Kevin J. Anderson has his own prog rock band, Rosewell Six.

Kim | 477 comments With the author interview it might look better if you are looking towards the screen when asking your questions rather than looking out into the side of the screen. It just looks a bit weird.

Still a bit of awkwardness at times but it's coming along well and I look forward to the next one.

The audio podcasts continue to be between 40-60 minutes, typically.

It depends, but the audio shows are usually closer to an hour or so.

If we look at the screen directly a) we don't see anything (the skype feed is pip'd in live, but not on set), b) we look very, very profiley, and c) we can't see the monitors that actually show the guest.

So the interview isn't prerecorded? You're actually doing it while filming the show? I wasn't suggesting looking directly at the screen, else we end up just staring at the back of your heads, rather more of an angle. To me there's just something odd about asking a question when we see the author in the middle but you're looking a different direction. It's a minor thing though.

Wait! You don't know the Dewey Decimal System?!! ... Scratch that! Sorry! I mean you didn't read the FAQ!!?? (if you didn't get my lousy attempt at a movie reference click here)

Leesa (leesalogic) | 675 comments Great videocast :) Love the podcast and the videocast. Both of you are fabulous and I rave about you all the time.

I'm behind on Hyperion, but I only get to hear it about 30 minutes a day during the week, two hours or so on the weekends (thus I'm only just now getting to the meat of the third story).

Loved hearing Grossman's comments on The Magicians (I'm still not sure what I think about it), and looking forward to the extended interview.

(delayed edit: changed audiocast to videocast)

Ditto to all of this.

If there's one advantage of my not turning on my TV all week (personal experiment), it's that I had time to listen to this show while I was messing around on the internet, and turn to actually LOOK at it when it became relevant.

Although this is a re-read for me, it's been 8 or so years since I read it and I definitely don't remember the fine details. I'm hoping to get a lot more read this weekend...I've been listening to the audiobook and am finding my mind wander while listening to some of the stories (especially the soldier's tale...I really don't care much for descriptions of battles). I might have to do some of my reading back in my old DTE.

Anyway, enjoyed this week's show. :)

You're not behind! You still have until the end of the month :)

message 13: by Boots (new)

Boots (rubberboots) | 499 comments Great episode. Thank you for asking Mr. Grossman my question.

I'm kind of sad that I won't be able to read along with the group this month, hopefully I'll catch up in June.

So no more discussions at the table near the dragon? Or is that going to be for live author interviews?

message 15: by Jonathan Cate (new)

Jonathan Cate | 57 comments Nice job with the variations on the theme song for each segment. I like that touch.

Great episode.

Yeah that's for live authors. Rob reid is the next one we expect to have in studio in July.

Do you have a schedule of who you'll be interviewing?

I'd like to know ahead of time so I can try and read a book of theirs.

Yes, and no... it's always subject to change. Our next interview is Ernie Cline though!

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Great show again guys. I loved the Lev Grossman interview - some very honest answers there and He was a lot more down to earth than I had expected him to be.
I loved The Magicians for its journey of discovery ie Quentins discovery of a new and magical world - not so much for some of its convoluted themes a few goodread readers imposed upon it (if I understood Grossman's interview right).

message 21: by Kris (new)

Kris (kvolk) Love the show!...like that you continue to polish the look and the set. It improves each time I watch it....Lev Grossman interview was engaging....looking forward to the next one and what the pick for June is....

message 22: by Zach (new)

Zach Moore (zachms) | 13 comments Great episode, I love both shows.

I'm going to need you guys to start doing this everyday okay? Great, thanks. :)

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments Thanks for asking my question guys! And I'm so glad that Grossman likes Janet as much as I do.

Haven't had the chance to watch passed the interview segment yet (busy busy busy)

Skaw | 116 comments Just watched the episode.

I was quite tickled (old fashioned word but it fits) to see you mention my thread, but somewhat disconcerted to realize I had completely concealed my chick-ness.

Me Ninja. Hear me roar.

I'm sorry!! It's hard to suss out sometimes, and we probably assume too much based on usernames.

I thought I'd at least put my gender in on my profile, but no it was an epic fail on my part, no blame on you. I added the girly picture to make it easier to tell in the future (and designated in my profile). :)

I'm sure it won't be the last time we make that mistake. The dragon for instance....

Skip | 517 comments Go figure - gender confusion on the internets. ;)

Loved the interview, his explanations actually were very informative and confirmed some of my thoughts on the characters themselves.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2667 comments Funny but I had imagined Lev Grossman as a grumpy old man :) I was a bit surprised to see what he looked like.
