question
Most upsetting death in The Hunger Games trilogy?

A Hunger Games discussion by http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/46...
I think Rue's and Prim's death really hurt me the most. Rue was so sweet. She saved Katniss' life before even knowing her. ue was so confident and caring. And PRIM?!?!? Katniss volenteered to save her, and she ends up dying? She was so sweet and sensitive. She didn't like hunting with Katniss because she would never like seeing the dead animals. They are both so amazing! What the bread?!

i didnt like rue's or finnick's deaths because i liked both of their characters, but it was prim's death annoyed me the most because katniss took her place in the hunger games so she didnt have to go through it or die in it and then after all katniss does to survive and come home to her, prim still ends up killed while she is trying to help/ save people? wtf??? how can you kill her after all that? that definitely bothered me.
Prim's death and Finnick's were both upsetting, but I was most upset by Cinna's death. That poor guy worked his butt off to make the revolution happen and to put Katniss at the top as the Mockingjay, and didn't even get to see the fruit of his efforts.
I have this whole further storyline in my head that involves Cinna and Finnick. I understand Cinna but Finnick his death did nothing for the story. I hope in the movie they keep him. Why not they didnt keep Madge, Avox girl. Both of the picnics roof and cave scene. Bonnie and Twill very important because that is where you see the foundation being laid for District 13 and her being the face of the rebellion. Oh and let us not forget where you really know how much Katniss loves Peeta is where she looses her mind (the first time) on the Hovercraft in The Hunger Games. That is just a short list. Surely we can keep Finnick. We wont really know until 2015.
3}Finnick
2}Rue
1}Prim
Katniss volunteered for the hunger games to save prim's life and watched so may people to try and save her. It was heart retching when she died.

Oh god, Finnick's death and Cinna's I really wasn't expecting that. Prim's death did nothing for me, I knew Katniss volunteered to save her but it just felt like it happened and that's it. Finnick's just killed me cause they talked about his and Annie's child afterwards.
Probably Rue's, Finnick's and Cinna's deaths. Rue's death was so...hard because she was just a young girl and you could tell how much of a friendship she and Katniss had. And, oh, because she's Rue!
Finnick's death was upsetting because of Annie and because he's suffered so much and because it was a shock! I was not expecting Finnick to die.
And as for Cinna...oh, dear, dear Cinna. He was so gentle in a defiant way. I don't know how anybody could not love Cinna.

Prim, hands down. Especially since Katniss risked her life to save her and then she still ended up dead.
You have to admit that it was clear from the start that Rue would die. ):
Also, Cinna. One of the few good guys from Capitol.

When Rue & Katniss paired up I was panicked. I understood the rules -- only one. So, throughout that part I just kept thinking, "If it ends with Katniss having to kill Rue or even hints at it going that way."
I had to read the death twice because for me. It was I knew that the only way for Katniss not to end up killing her was that she would have to die somehow. But good lord!
I found the part where Katniss mourning over Rue the worst. Even in the movie --- though I was prepared for the death scene because I read the book.
For me, emotionally Rue's was sad, Prim's angered me. hers for me demonstrated the anger/hate that a person can have messes with not just your enemies but also those that you love. And, that the reason the idea even was around..ugh.

Rue's was the saddest, Prim's was the worst, but Finnick's was the one I thought never should have happened and was the most tragic.
I have three really upsetting deaths:
3) Finnick- he just worked so hard and was such a great and determined person and he was just decapitated. Plus he never got to know his child.
2) Rue- she was an innocent young girl who died too soon. When I read her death my jaw dropped. I was just so stunned. Then I slowly started crying.
1) Prim- Katniss went to the Hunger Games to keep her from dying but she exploded into bits like her father which is a more painful death. I cried so much every time I read the series and got to that point.
Overall these were the worst deaths. It's not like the others weren't said, just not as depressing.

I'd probably say Finnick first and then Rue. We had so much more time to connect to Finnick, so when he died I was really sad because I had lost a beloved character, with Rue we didn't have nearly as much time to connect, so it was just really sad because she was so young, and clever and she died while helping Katniss
Prim or Finnick, I would say. I know that both of these deaths were really fundamental to the story plot-wise and they definitely were needed, but that doesn't stop them from breaking my poor, little heart! Prim was so innocent and so good! She deserved better that to be blown up by a nasty bomb! And Finnick - yes he might have been a bit arrogant and annoying some of the time - but he generally had a good heart and would go to the ends of the earth for his loved ones. I especially feel bad for Annie - They were perfect for each other! Why? Oh, why?
Finnick. At first I actually thought I read wrong, since it was so unexpected.
Cinna in the second book. Prim and Finnick in Mocking Jay. When Finnick died i read the chapter over and over again until it hit me. same with prim..):
Prim death of course. It spoils the series I would accept anyone death but not the little duck
Definitely Prim and Finnick... I bawled like a baby. it was not okay😂
It has to be between Finnick and Prim. Finnick was such an easy going guy, you never would've guessed all the terrible things he had to deal with in his life. As soon as he offered Katniss that sugar cube you were like, "This is going to be AWESOME". You immediately loved him. So when he died, it really tore my heart to pieces. And little Primrose Everdeen. Gosh. You have to realize that it all started with her. Katniss volunteered for her little sister and that's how this whole "Hunger Games" thing got started. Throughout all the books, Katniss was constantly thinking and worrying about Prim. We readers came to love her as a sister too, someone who we felt we had to protect. And even though she is a fictional character it broke our Science Fiction addicted hearts in two.
Rest in forever peace...
Finnick Odair
Primrose Everdeen

I will admit that Peeta was bit of a weakling but his character was strong.
Finnick, Rue, and Cinna were the deaths that made me cry. To me Finnick was just such a likable character and really funny, but his death was completely unexpected (I thought he was too minor a character to need to kill off) But then you find out that Annie was pregnant and now you have a mentally unstable girl whos just lost her husband and is going to have a child.. it just hits you hard.
Rue really needs no explanation, she was so good and innocent the whole way through and didn't deserve to die + Katniss' reaction was heart-wrenching.
Like Finnick, Cinna always seemed protected in the series and the whole time he's being taken away he's just so Calm it hurts. Then later in the story you find out that he was always creating dresses to help the rebellion - he was a character that could had a really cushy life in the Capitol but chose to make the right decision and suffered for it.
I don't know why but I never really connected to Prim and always viewed her as a bit 2 dimensional, especially compared to the other characters. I think it was sad that she died, since Katniss' only goal was to keep her alive, but the way her death was written was really understated - I get the impact the author wanted you to have, I just didn't feel that the briefness of the writing really did the plot many favors. I kind of just shrugged and moved on, unlike with a lot of the other deaths in the book (Finnick's mentor walking to her death will always get me)

ALL OF THEM. But if I had to chose, probably Rue, she was my favorite character...
Finnick. That broke my heart. Every time I read it I always hope that maybe he won't die. He did not deserve to die and I feel horrible for annie and their son.
Madge, definitely! She's just so underrated! She is sweet and thoughtful and she's been through a lot. Everyone ignored her because she was the mayor's daughter, it's so unfair!
Finnick. Prim. Cinna.
Finnick- he was so important to Katniss while Peeta was at the capital with a messed up mind. He was one of the only only people (besides Peeta, Gale, Prim, Cinna, and Mr. Everdeen) that Katniss would trust with her life. He was also the only person who could sooth Annie when she went crazy.
Prim- I literally threw the book across the room when I found out that she died. At first I didn’t understand what had happened, so I went and reread it and was very upset. She was another one of the only people Katniss cared about. What the frick , Suzanne! You really had to go out and kill Prim and destroy Katniss’s whole life!
Cinna- Katniss loves him, and it broke her when it happened. She was absolutely mortified.
Oh you know who should’ve died? GALE!
He was honestly a jerk to Katniss after the games. Katniss was emotionally scared from them and Gale refused to accept that maybe Peeta was the right choice for her because Peeta actually understood what she was feeling.
These are my opinions and I will hold to them. If you don’t agree, don’t try to dissuade me.

Finnick and Prim, plus so many more but i don't want to dwell on this all day.
Prim and Rue and Cinna
Prim was so sweet and shy that I didn't even know she was going to die! Her death broke my heart and it pains me to see Katniss so torn apart after her death. Hell, she was going to save those kids and what did she get in return???
Rue was also a really sweet character. She saved Katniss during the Hunger Games and she was so young!! How could the games be so cruel?? Her death was the reason I was so angry at the Hunger Games. Frankly, I think if I were Katniss I would have shouted something offensive at the games after Rue dies.
And Cinna, he was like a father to Katniss. He made her shine and all her fame was because of Cinna's wonderful ideas. I loved that he gave her encouragement before she went into the arena and also didn't say anything during Katniss' second trip into the arena. He was totally awesome and didn't even deserve to die.

For me, it's like a 4-way tie between Rue, Finnick, Cinna, and Prim all those deaths were just gut-wrenching.
I love the hunger games series so much and i cried a LOT throughout. I think the hardest death for me was Rue's death. The way that Katniss always spoke about how she was so much like Prim made it even more heart-wrenching when she died and i really felt like making Rue the first like 'big' death in the book really made it feel real and really suddenly reiterated how evil the Capitol government were. Finnick's death really got me going too but it was too short to get really really upset about it, it just seemed super shocking, which is the same with Cinna's.
Prims made me feel like there was no good left in the world.

Rue or Prime’s Death, They were just so innocent, they didn’t deserve to die!!
I have to say it's a tie for me between Finnick, Rue, Cinna, and Prim. I feel like Finnick could've had a bigger part in the story and although I had second thoughts for his and Katniss' friendship, he was a really lovable guy. Rue was definitely a heart-wrenching one because I think she reminded Katniss so much of Prim and unfair it was that there were 12/13 year olds fighting till death for their district. Cinna was also just plain sad and right as they dropped Katniss into the arena too! I think it also showed Katniss that there is a deeper meaning to the games than she thought. Prim was definitely a hard one too, especially since Katniss volunteered in Prim's place just so Prim wouldn't die but even as she was helping, she died nevertheless.
I know some people will think it's weird but Cato's and Clove's death upset me. When Clove died, Cato was begging her to stay with him and shows that maybe the careers were brutal but just like everyone else they have someone that they cared for, even if it's not 'romantic'.
Finnick's death also upset me because maybe he flits a lot but no matter what he died trying to save others and showing who he really was.

I think Prims would have been the saddest it was just very fast that I didn't have to have it all go through. Finiiiiiick and Rueeeeee though they were hands down the saddest to me. It is hard to choose though.
I really loved all of the characters but I think Finnick's death hurt the most in the books. He went through a ton of character development. We saw him fall apart and put himself together. Then he died so suddenly. Literally cried.
In the movie I would say Prim.

Finnick. Rue. Prim.
Finnick because he died still fighting, and if he'd lived a little longer he would have survived the whole thing and be able to be with Annie and the baby and finally live a life free of the Capital.
Rue because she was so innocent, didn't deserve to die, and was too young.
Prim for the same reason as Rue, but also since her death devastated Katniss and broke off any lasting hope of her friendship with Gale going back to normal.

I think Finick because he was so caring and went through so much. Just when he was getting his life together it all fell apart and he died.
I think it was Prim. She didn't do ANYTHING wrong. Only good. I had to wipe a few tears... Seriously, I REALLY don't like the fact that all of these beloved people had to......... Including Rue and Finnick...
Finnick's death was the saddest. I'm the type of person who gets attached to book characters and cries when they die, and I cried for Finnick. A lot of the other deaths were sad, like Prim's, but none of those made me cry. Finnick was the best character, he had great personality. And he had just gotten married and he and Annie were so happy. And when I found out they had a baby, I cried again!
Finnick's death was very sad but Prim's was worse.. she was the whole reason it all started and she still dies! i cried the most then.
Finnick and Cinna's deaths ruined me the most. When Finnick died I had to wait like two hours before I could continue reading.
Just saying not to offend anyone but i kinda forgot about the hg ever since the movie so i just have 1 thing i remember and that is that PEETA sucks GALE rocks and FFFIIINNNNNNIIICCCKKK DIED AND I WAS SO SAD SO FINNICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Defiantly Katniss' emotional & psychological death throughout Mockingjay.
