I just heard a statistic that said people who have ereaders, read 24% more books then people who read traditional books. Do you think that is true?

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie Reece I don't know, but I always thought fast and slow reading was more in line with a reader's individual personality. I doubt a Kindle would make me read any faster than I do. Maybe there's a science behind it I'm unaware of?

Sandra (readingontheporch) I think a big part of that statistic is because it's far easier to obtain books with a Nook/Kindle device. There's no having to leave the house to go to a bookstore or the library. I do find that my speed of reading is about as fast with a regular book as it is on my Nook.

Tish (paradiseisalibrary) | 1 comments I don't think it's that it makes me read faster. I've always read insanely fast. It just makes books easier and cheaper to find so that I can read more without breaking the bank. Also I don't have to go searching the store or library I can sit at work or at home and just browse Amazon while watching TV.

Mirvan. Ereon (mirvanereon) | 209 comments It makes me read almost 3x faster than normal. It is so useful with me because I am a paid reviewer by profession, and besides, I have a lot of review requests from authors that I give for free. My TBR is like 30 plus for reviews, so this really helps me a lot. I can finish a 200 to 300 or more page book in epub or mobi in like 2 hours maximum.

If it doesn't make you read faster, does it make you buy more books?

message 7: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Basil | 40 comments I have to admit, I have been reading much more frequently since I bought my Nook. I wouldn't say my speed of reading itself has quickened, just the amount of books I'm reading and how often.

For me it comes down to three things: 1) I can afford to read a lot more books on my Nook, especially indie books. 2) It's easier to get the books than going out or waiting for shipping. 3) With my Nook, it is much easier to just pull it out and read pretty much anywhere.

I would be really interested to know how they came up with that statistic because it just doesn't make sense to me. A book length is a book length. It takes no less time to press a button to go to the next page than it does to turn a page. I don't get it.

Jp (themightyguest) | 3 comments I'm reading MORE now that I have a kindle, but I don't think I'm reading any faster. Actually, my friend has a nook and she says she's reading slower. With the books she used a skimming method to basically read like every third or fifth word. She could plow through a 300 page novel in an evening. Now, for some reason, she reads more in depth with the nook.

Sherri Moorer (sherrithewriter) Yes, absolutely. I have iBooks and the Nook app on my phone. I not only have more books, but I read more too.

Lauryn April (laurynapril) | 44 comments I would certainly say I read more books now, but I don't read faster. I'd agree that my Kindle makes it easier for me to get books, I can buy books faster. But, mostly I'm able to read more often with my Kindle.

I always have my Kindle with me, where I wouldn't always carry my book around with me. My Kindle is much smaller and easier to keep in my purse. So I have it with me when I have those five minutes waiting for an appointment or inbetween classes where I can read a few more pages.

Melissa | 4 comments I used to read about one book a month, and now I can read three books a week sometimes. I keep it with me at all times. It's so much more compact and neat, and I can finish a book and have another ready at, say, midnight. I lay in bed shopping for books at night too and find tons of free books or 99 cent books and have found so many new awesome authors that way. The experience is much richer than just reading faster or more.

Jonathan Poku | 1 comments E readers definitely help you to read much more melissa.

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) I don't know if I read faster but I read more, the kindle is convenient to take anywhere plus you can get so many books free and $0.99 making it easier to get books too.

message 14: by Dominique (new)

Dominique It definitely makes me read more and faster!

message 15: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot Interestingly(is that even a word???), I read pdf versions of books quicker than print copies now that I'm getting used to the format. I probably would read faster on an ereader but I don't want one!
