With Weber, I think his tendency is to get so involved with the technology and politics he forgets to tell the story. I've seen him do this in more than one series!

I followed the Harrington series for a long time, but with many of the later books of that series, I simply skipped huge portions of the book completely, not just skimmed but skipped ... all of the technology and most of the politics.

I've noticed the tendency in more than one SF writer and my personal opinion is that they were some sort of engineer in a previous life! I'm married to one and believe me any kind of technology fascinates ... and sidetracks ... them totally.
