Jess | 3721 comments Hi there everyone. As many of you know, the BOM for this month ended up being picked randomly via random.org. Normally, it's done by voting. I was wondering what people thought of using random.org to decide the BOM rather than having a poll every month.

There are a couple of reasons I thought it might be a good reason to switch. One being that it was easier for me to set it up and my time lately has been limited. (Totally selfish lol) Another reason, it can be hard to choose a book when there can be many choices that are interesting. And I think having the books randomly picked can make it easier for people. Also, having the poll eliminated would cut down on time waiting to hear which book will be picked allowing more time for people to get books from the library.

One of the cons of it would be that the BOM might end up being a dud, or being a book that only 1 or 2 people might want to read.

Anyway, those were just my thoughts. I'm just wondering what people in the group think about it. Let me know here!

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I am ok with going the random route.

Jill I am okay with random.
I have another question though.
Is there anyway that the books that weren't chosen could have some sort of second chance draw?? Sometimes there are some excellent books nominated but then they don't get put in next time, probably because we have other awesome books distract us:-)
I don't know, maybe that would lead to too many books, but i often find awesome books through other people's nominations.
Anyway just a thought.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments I really like the random route, one reason is that it isn't done that way in other groups. Kinda neat. ☺ Second, I like what Jill said; give some on the past noms another shot.

P.S. I know I usually don't read the BOM with you ladies, but I do eventually. My month is pretty packed by the time the results are in.

Sonia (darktalynn) I like the random route. And I also agree with Jill about the past books.

Sarah (sarah_anne) | 253 comments I like the idea of a random selection. Sometimes, you can figure out which books will be chosen based on author popularity. A random selection makes the winner a complete surprise.

Jess | 3721 comments Hmm interesting! I thought more people would be in favor of the poll.

I also agree about getting great ideas from other people's nominations. I'll have to think about how we can factor in the nominations again..

One way would be for people to just re-suggest the titles for the next month. But if they all carried over it might be too large of a list. I will definitely think about this though! And if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to say so!

@Lisa Kay - I don't always get to the BOM at the time either. But it's a great way to try to prioritize!

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Maybe you could do every other month that way Jess, that way it is the best of both worlds.
