We Need to Talk About Kevin

Did Kevin respect his Mum after all?

I dunno' ... I found Eva - from all the character had to say about herself - to be somebody pretty self centered - from the get go.
But I see her as being a woman who didn't really want to have children ... she did that for Franklin - out of love? Well ... I think what she felt for him was more of a 'hangup' than love.
I can see her not loving Kevin - but I didn't actually get the impression she loved the little girl either - I saw her decision to give birth again was a way of getting Franklin's - and Kevin's, I suppose - attention.

I completely agree and it has always baffled me too!
When you reread the events of the story and remove Eva's inferences things slip into place more. For me Kevins behaviour only becomes sinister after Celias birth. Prior to that it is very much Eva's spin on it that is disturbing. Who can blame him? She literally got pregnant to prove her son was a bad 'un.
