Do chapters moving forward then backward add or detract from the story?

Sophia Roberts | 1324 comments One you hit the 'hinge' chapter everything makes perfect sense. From this point onwards I began to think, "This book is brilliant". But, up until this point I was wondering, "What is all the fuss is about...

Ellen (elliearcher) | 187 comments I agree-this is definitely a book that needs to be read (certainly past the midway point) before you can even have a reaction-I was so confused for so long and then it all started coming together.

In the end I loved this book.

Ellie,
Have you finished reading Cloud Atlas?

Ellen (elliearcher) | 187 comments Yes-I'm this year I finally read the entire thing (I've tried before) and it didn't start to come together for me until half-way through and really cohered at the end.

That's dedication!

Sophia Roberts | 1324 comments It often works likes this. There are books I started and abandoned years ago that I've picked up in later life and loved!

I can't say that I'd ever tried this book before, but I did have a very deep resistance to reading it. However, in the spirit of being a member of the group, I buckled down and got on with it! I'm glad I did.

Charlie Brown | 5 comments It certainly helped me to carry on once I'd seen that the various characters' stories were going to be revisited...when I finished ch 1 I actually checked the page numbers because I thought I'd got a faulty copy!

Really glad I stuck with it though because it all tied up so beautifully!

Ashley Mastandrea (ashmastandrea) | 4 comments I'm just beginning Timothy Cavendish's story. I'm enjoying how the characters are starting to interweave. The story is becoming more engaging and I'm anticipating new revelations.

While I was hesitant to continue reading as I made my way through the second chapter, I'm invigorated to continue with the story now.

Thank God for my dictionary.com app...it's been getting a lot of use with this book!
