Tricia | 352 comments LOL, this made me think of some books I purchased when I first got into college. To save money I bought used books and I was lucky that the person who had them before me took some excellent notes and left them in the margins!

I've written and highlighted in college textbooks... but other than that I generally hate the thought of marking up a book.

message 102: by Karina (new)

Karina I once bought a used textbook for one of my classes...there was a huge dead spider in between the pages -_-

Ugh! I probably would have screamed and wet myself.... I despise spiders!

That is so gross! Ugh! I love when I get textbooks that have notes and are already highlighted :D

message 105: by Karina (new)

Karina It was funny but gross! I showed it my mom and she freaked out...she's like you Tricia!

I love writing random things on Post-Its and leaving them inside books for someone else to read ...I also post them in random places on campus ^_^
...I always wonder who reads them and who takes them and what they thought.

message 106: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Ugh! This just reminded me of this one time I borrowed a book from the library. It was Tales of Beedle the Bard, I'm pretty sure.
Anyway, I open it up and there were chocolate marks (nutella, maybe?) on the pages! There were marks on at least five pages throughout. I got really annoyed and decided to leave a post it note on the first page asking future readers, nicely, to not freaking eat while reading. I signed it 'J.K. Rowling'. Lol. Hopefully the note works and that Ms Rowling won't mind that I used her name. :P

Katrina that story was hilarious!

message 108: by Becca (new)

Becca Wilson | 44 comments I don't like markings in my reading books, whenever I need to annotate for a class I write them on post-its.
But..chocolate...thats just...how do you even get chocolate marks on pages? Respect books haha

I found 10 dollars in a library copy of Tiger's Quest (The Tiger Saga, #2) by Colleen Houck !

message 110: by Becca (new)

Becca Wilson | 44 comments Wow....what library do you go to?

message 111: by Sydney (new)

Sydney (sydeli) I've gotten into a bad habit of putting down a book right before, during, or after the big action scene. I don't know why, but I do.

I like reading in this big red chair in the office in my house. It's comfy and no one bothers me and there's this big fluffy blanket we keep in there, so it is great for reading.

my local one! Someone must have put it there by accident!

message 113: by Karina (new)

Karina They probably forgot it! It's happened to me but when I return the books the librarians always skim through the books and then hand me back everything I left in there XD

Has anyone ever tried audio books?

message 114: by Isabel (new)

Isabel (_isabelita) If done well, I like audiobooks a lot. I usually listen to them when I'm on the bus or busy with my hands. However, if the person reading isn't very good it's really annoying!!

message 115: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) I tried listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was really good and it was the first one I tried. But I find it much harder to pay attention to what's happening. Like I feel like I have to work twice as hard to imagine the world and the characters and everything.

message 116: by Karina (new)

Karina I tried listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! It was hard!...I would get too distracted and not pay attention to what was being said! Also, the guy reading it would make funny voices for the characters XD

I switched to just reading lol

message 117: by Eris (new)

Eris (puffincandy) | 36 comments I sometimes have to find a spot to read. You should stop at the end of the chapter but I seem to stop in random places which is annoying. The best place I like to read is in my bed with a mug of cocoa or hot soup. I prefer to read an hour before bed, but if I am at school whenever I've got time to spare.

message 118: by Briana (new)

Briana | 61 comments I can't stand to listen to people read. It drives me insane. When a book is confusing and I don't understand I read it outloud, but when I do I read in an accent. It's always an english accent or a southern accent, but when i read it outloud to my self it makes much more sense.

message 119: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) The whole accent thing is totally true! I always do mine in an English accent and I don't do it on purpose. It's like a involuntary thing. LOL

message 120: by Karina (new)

Karina I can't listen to someone else read...my mind begins to wander and I end up not paying attention to a single word.
I do the accent thing too! Mine isn't too good though Lol

Whilst reading I tend to think it but the voice isn't mine it's usually Rory's from Gilmore girls or if it's a guy's voice it tends to be Stephen fry- i hav no idea why xD

I saw a bucket list and one of the things was to leave a note in a book from a library. I don't know what I would write but this totally reminded me of that.

Jasmine (jazzyjams) | 1616 comments Aw... if you go by that I deserve to die... Oh well, death can't be that bad a place to be...

I read pretty much everywhere, but I can't always read at school because then I get sucked into the book and my teachers have on multiple occasions had to tell me to put the book down and focus on the lesson -.- meanies...

I can't stand it either, my brother does this all the time and I tell him to read in his head, there's a reason we can do that... But reading aloud makes things less confusing sometimes...

I agree! it always saddens me to see that many ppl do not takr good care of library books. I will often find ripped pages, stains, folded pages..

I hate when that happens... I only ever partially destroy a book if it's mine, and that's usually because I've read it so many times...

message 133: by Karina (new)

Karina I dont understand how that happens? I own books that I have read millions of times and they are still in very good condition...almost like new.
Well, I do have a pretty damaged one, but my sister did that to it. >:(

Me too! I hate people who are careless when it comes to books. People who just throw books around like they are not important.

I would cradle my book when it's new.. but you wouldn't see touching my school books when I'm at home.

I could see how it happens since some ppl reread books so many times and after awhile they will not be in the same condition. I personally do not reread books more than once but some ppl do.

I don't since I already know what happens so it kind of ruins the book for me. There are a few book that i did enjoy rereading though.
