How Do You Read?

Hahah, then you would die if you saw how poorly I treat my books. I try to be nicer to them, but the covers ALWAYS get folded and bent and crumpled :( I can't help it.
It's a sad life for them
Oh my God...tearing up your books is like...child abuse!

And usually lands all squished behind my bed in the morning. I'm trying to get better at it :]

I read your answers! I always do (:
when i was younger i would always read under the covers too!

I do the same!! my friends think I'm crazy lol

But I ADORE them ;)
With me, the covers will get bent no matter how hard I try to prevent it :(

That's why I hate paperbacks!!

I DO TOO! But, it's no use. They get lost under and behind and in my bed and I roll over them in my sleep! And the worse is probably when I leave them in my backpack. Oh god. They get destroyed! It's literally so sad! But I am trying to keep them in...safer...environments! Just yesterday I put up a whole bunch of my favorite books on a high shelf in my room so they won't get lost/destroyed! Yay!

I love hard covers! They always seem so strong and sturdy while paperbacks are so fragile. It's so annoying because in my country, book stores don't have anything in hard cover. Publishing houses go straight to paperback editions. So yeah. My friend had a school's copy of Animal Farm in paperback because they were studying it. And it was in the most tattered condition ever! There was tape all over the book to keep the cover from falling apart. The spine was cracked. Pages were teared off and taped back together. On the front, it had the list of all the people who borrowed it and it dated back to 1980s! That's the only kind of paperback I like; worn-out and well read by many.

That's a good idea. The second book is usually icky, trilogies, especially.

D: Oh no no no! I take care of my books like they were human babies! When I see a book falling apart I always think it was mistreated...but sometimes i guess they are like that because they are well loved. I just hate seeing a book like that!
Lol and I have the opposite problem! Books are released in hard cover first and it takes ..a year i believe (could be wrong) for it to release in paperback.
I hate letting people borrow my books. They either return to me damaged or don't return at all! I recently loaned a friend 2 of my books (Mockingjay and Divergent) and Mockingjay came back written on and sopping wet while Divergent never came back before summer break so I'll never see it again. I just felt like crying :(

I know what you mean! I once let my best friend(at the time) sister borrow a couple of books but since we are no longer friends I never saw my books again. Im more sad about losing the books than losing the friendship :'(
but lesson learned..now no one borrows my books!
I refused to talk to him for a month and when I did start talking to him I would always bring up those books in the middle of a conversation just to make him feel guilty. but now I'm moving so its sad we had to end our friendship on a bad note. But even sadder that I'll never see my poor books again :'(

If you don't trust them then don't. Let them get their own books!
Karina wrote: "yeah our friendship ended on a bad note as well which is why my books were never returned. Whtever those books how lay in the hands of an enemy and they shall remain there."
I have the same problem with deciding whether or not to lend it to them. Its like "You have to read this but you don't have to read mine..."

I don't lend books because I don't really buy books. 99% of the time I get my books at the library!
I like to have books to myself in case I really love it so then I can read it over and over again!
I don't usually re-read my books! I re-read the Uglies I hated it the first and the second I liked it!

Same! I only buy the book after I've read them and I know for sure that it's amazing and I will reread it again in like five years or or like pass the amazingness of the stories down to my children. lol.

I don't know I used to buy books but then I figured what's the point when I can get them for free! I hate when I buy a book and I read it and hate it!

True. I used to buy a lot of my books, but now i focus on borrowing from a library or downloading ebooks. If I really love a book, or have heard a lot of good things about it il buy it.

hahahah, I thought I was the only one that did that. I can rarely finish a whole book unless it is really good. I can be reading up to twenty books and come back at them like I just read them yesterday.

How many books do you guys usually read per week?

I take my time reading, so i read 1 book a week on average. It sometimes depends on size, so if the book is only 200-300 pages then I might finish it in 2 days

Karina wrote: "I can read a 500 page book in a day and usually am able to read 6-8 books a week... But lately I've been getting lazy."
I feel when I read too fast I don't enjoy the book!

I wouldn't be able to stop myself! Lol.

I would never be able to do that! I tried it once and failed hehe
I tried that with one book, but then I was home alone one day and had nothing to do, so I read the last 400 pages!

No way, lol. The more drawn into the action or story, the faster I read. Drawing it out seems like an interesting idea... but I couldn't do it. I get caught up in the pace. I do; however, read slowly when the pace seems slow, unless it is too slow and then I end up scanning.
Katrina wrote: "Do you guys purposely read slower if the book is getting interesting? Just for the sake of drawing the excitement out and not wanting for the book to end already. I know people who do that, but I p..."
I do that with series not books. I want to try to be able to enjoy and make the series last as long as possible.

I had a friend who ALWAYS wrote and highlighted her books. No, I'm not referring to textbooks or school books. She would write her thoughts about certain parts on the side and highlight things she liked.

I know people as well who highlight certain passages that they liked. Personally, I used to have a notebook where I write all the quotes I like. But then I got Fault in Our Stars and I realized that I'd basically be copying down half the book so I just got a pencil and underlined them. Nothing permanent. That's the only book I've done it on.

I can't say that I've done that in any book other than my Bible... I have been known to dog-ear pages or put in scraps of paper, but never to write in one.

I use Post-Its!! :D
I love those things, I have a bunch of packs all over my room. I swear.
And whenever I'm reading I tend to think outloud. My sister always asks who I'm talking to and then tells me to stop because I sound crazy when I talk to no one. Hehe :P
I never write in books because I usually get them from the library yet there is some books that i would love to annotate and highlight things I like and dislike.
In school we always put post its in our books to write what we think. It's a pretty good technique
