Karina Are there certain things you do before you read? while? after?

Do you stop at a random spot? or do you have to stop at the end of a chapter?

Do you have a favorite reading spot?

Do you read at anytime or are there specific time you prefer to read?

❤Rose (◕‿◕✿) (black_rose) | 532 comments I don't mind WHEN i read, whenever i can, but i seem to always end up staying up till 3am reading whenever i don't have school on....I guess i liek to read when everyone else in the house is sleeping. I curl up on my bed in blankets and read. Sometimes, they're ebooks so i have to read with a computer (i really want a kindle/nook!!!!) but that's basically the when and where.

I usually (unless the book is one of those kinda rare, can't-stop-reading books) stop somewhere in one book, start another, stop, start another, finish the first, start another, start another, finish the third, start another, read a book i can't-put-down, finish the second, start another ten, finish the 7th..... and if you look at my currently read list, u might understand now why i have so many books there.....

I try to stop at chapters but if there's school tommorow and i HAVE to go to sleep, I stop in the middle of the chapter.

I love reading after just completing my homework or just before I go to bed. Only porblem is that I always want to read more even though I have to go to sleep :(

I love reading somewhere really comfy such as in my livingroom and I usually stop in the middle of chapters at pages at like 50,100,150. I don't know if any one reads in 50 pages increments or i'm just odd lol :)

I do the same exact thing I read in increments of 50 or 100 or I read chapters

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) I don' read by chapter, which a lot of people have to read by chapter

Jay I fall asleep reading

My favorite reading spot is my room

I read at anytime

Ophelia ॐ | 749 comments I can read anywhere!
I like reading best in my bed when I'm about to go to sleep, or anytime. My bed is my fave reading spot (:
I sometimes need some music playing to read, and I need to be alone..preferably with the door closed. I hate being interrupted when I read

message 9: by Karina (new)

Karina I can read anywhere because I get so lost in a book that I forget my surroundings. And I try to read anytime I can which is why I always carry a book with me.
I do prefer reading in my room though, with my iPod on.
I have to read chapters there is no way i can stop in the middle!
and I always have to have something to write in because there is always a quote i like that I must write down (:

Do any of you skip paragraphs? or do you guys read every single word?

I hate when people interrupt me! It's like they can't see that I'm currently reading and I'm just so into book. They just keep talking even though I really want to read and not talk :P

message 11: by Jenia (new)

Jenia (storyteller_86) | 124 comments I can read anywhere but when TV is on, that distracts me too much. I also have music on too but i tend to read in my room or living room. I love reading outside when the weather is nice too. I tend to read before i go to bed, when i wake up.

I usually have read the chapter before stopping. I tend read few chapters but if i have go somewhere next day, I stop at end sentence so i know where to start off next day.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) Karina wrote: "Do any of you skip paragraphs? or do you guys read every single word?"

I have a bad habit of skipping a couple words when I read exciting scenes because I'm dying to know the outcome. But I usually end up rereading that part anyway.
So yeah I read basically every word.
I think people who can just skip paragraphs at a time aren't true readers. Sorry to anyone that does!

I try to read every word but sometimes I'll get so excited like you both said and I will find out what occured and I'll skip a few words. When I'm just really bored and I'm try to get to the good parts I'll skip some things but that only happens for school books usually.

message 16: by Karina (new)

Karina I like to read every word but sometimes the same thing happens I get really impatient and excited and skip some but i do go back and read it more calmly haha.
some authors add too much detail though. In Tiger's Curse, I thought the author provided so much detail about every little thing.

I want to read Tiger's Curse. I think alot of classics have that problem where the descriptions are so lenthy such as Huck Finn and Scarlett Letter.

message 18: by Karina (new)

Karina It ws good but I hated the female lead...she was okay in the beginning and towards the end oh gosh she got really annoying!
Yes, thats so true! i love detail but sometimes they go overboard!

❤Rose (◕‿◕✿) (black_rose) | 532 comments Jay wrote: "I fall asleep reading

I try not to fall asleep reading cos sometimes, I can't be bothered rearranging my self properly and usually just fall asleep with the book in my hands. If my parents found me like that they would freak at me and ban me from reading (not that it works) so....

(its happened before with music....they got MAD, I don't even know why....i mean what wrong with it....it WAS the weekend, so sleeping at 3am isn't that BAD is it?)

I completely agree, i really don't like books when they go overboard with details. EVEN if the plot is good.

message 20: by Karina (new)

Karina I never had a problem with falling asleep while reading, but it has been happening a lot lately. I hate it because I wake up with either the book on me or under me so i lose my place and sometimes the pages get folded...I don't like that, it drives me crazy to see the crease on a page!

She bothered me too. I just wanted one of the brothers to make her their dinner...too bad they seemed too like her.
but I honestly would have enjoyed the book more if she were replaced.

❤Rose (◕‿◕✿) (black_rose) | 532 comments ....never read the b0ok so i can't really comment....is the book good????

message 24: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) I don't have like a ceremony for reading or a place to read, really. I just read in the most comfortable chair/couch/floor/corner/position I can find and try not to lose that position because if I do, it'll distract me from reading and I'll end up spending five minutes trying to find it again. lol. but if the book is getting really interesting and everyone around me being really loud/annoying/distracting, I just leave, close all doors between where they are and my room and just read on my bed.
I just stop reading at whatever sentence I'm on if I'm interrupted or, more likely, if my parents tear the book my hands. Although, I hate stopping when it gets really interesting, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I want to read it but I'm not as excited and impatient as I normally get. maybe ill read it later on once i finish some other series.

message 28: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 8 comments I read any time, any place; same with writing. My favorite reading place is curled up in bed with my cat purring beside me. I prefer to stop at the end of a chapter or section.

message 29: by Karina (last edited May 12, 2012 08:52PM) (new)

Karina When my dog sees me reading he runs over and lays on my lap, maybe he wants me to read to him haha :P
But its uncomfortable because he is a weenie dog so he doesn't really fit on my lap lol

I swear whenever i read I am able to block out EVERYTHING...except my sisters voice. Its just irritating an loud!

message 32: by Jay (new)

Jay I read every word

message 33: by Karina (new)

Karina ^^I do too. I know some people that just skip paragraphs though.

How do you guys mark the spot you leave off at? Certain people dog ear their pages..I cannot stand that! Whatever is the closest thing to me is what i use. Like right now I'm using a Wolverine sticker to mark my spot :P

message 34: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) I used to doggy ear the pages, but now, it gives me a heart attack when I see people do that to books. I used to use random pieces of paper but I ended up losing them, so now I just memorize the page.

message 35: by Karina (new)

Karina Same with me! if I ever let anyone borrow a book before I hand it to them I always tell them not to do that..or else lol joking! but it really bugs me!
I can never memorize numbers! especially since I am usually reading more than one book at a time!

message 36: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Why do you think people read multiple novels at the same time? Personally, I only do that when/if the book I'm reading is so slow and boring that I can't stand it and the only thing that's motivating me not to drop it is guilt for not finishing what I started. Is it like that for you? Or what?

message 37: by Karina (new)

Karina Sometimes that is the case with me! But most of the time it is because I can not chose which book to start first, so I end up starting a few at a time.

message 38: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Aaah. The classic conundrum of a reader. When that happens to me, I can't pick which book to start, so I just end up not reading anything at all for around two days until I muster up the courage to choose one. Lol

message 39: by Karina (new)

Karina Haha I should start doing that. Starting multiple books at a time takes me longer to get through a book, so after a few days I usually end up focusing on one book more than the others.

message 40: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 8 comments I usually recall the page...it's typically divisible by three. Or chapter number. I love bookmarks and book thongs, and, being an author, I have plenty around. :)

I write multiple books at a time, but I only read one at a time. I want to enjoy the worlds others create. :)

message 41: by mercy (new)

mercy (mercyem) I'll read anywhere and anytime, but I can't stand reading and listening to music at the same time. It distracts me, and then I don't even take in what I just read!
I like reading in quiet places, somewhere where my little siblings aren't playing and my older siblings aren't blaring dubstep.
I dog-ear my page, wherever I stop reading.. which is usually whenever I have to do something or whatever. I usually just stop at the end of a paragraph if I have to stop.

message 42: by Jon, The Paperback Prince (new)

Jon (scottreadsit) | 5707 comments Mod
I just take post its, scraps of papers, and if I can find bookmarks from the library. I hate memorizing which page I'm on.

message 43: by Ophelia ॐ (new)

Ophelia ॐ | 749 comments I usually just close the book without marking it (though sometime I dog-ear it) and then when I pick it up later, I just flip my way through the book till I find what part I was at!

message 44: by Jay (new)

Jay I just memorize what page I was on

message 45: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Levitt (rebashk) | 38 comments Are there certain things you do before you read? while? after? Yes. Before, I mark it as a “currently reading” on GR. While: I update my status on GR. After: I rate the book and if I’m not lazy, maybe i’ll write a review.

Do you stop at a random spot? or do you have to stop at the end of a chapter? Well my dad comes in at night, he takes my book and puts it down who knows where I left off and when he leaves, I sneak the book under the covers and at least finish that chapter if I’m tired. If not, I’ll probably keep reading the next couple of chapters without realizing it’s midnight or something.

Do you have a favorite reading spot? Of course! Doesn’t every one? The couch next to the window. With, of course, my snuggie!

Do you read at anytime or are there specific time you prefer to read? So occasionally I read during class (in my desk) because I find it more entertaining than any class at school and occasionally I’ll read a couple of chapters at night before I go to bed but the main time that I read and finish my book is on the weekend. I’m Sabbath observant so really there’s nothing better to do. I read the entire afternoon which is always when I finish my books!

Watch how nobody reads my answers…

message 46: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Levitt (rebashk) | 38 comments Do any of you skip paragraphs? or do you guys read every single word? I dont technically “skip” paragraphs but I do scan the page much faster when it’s a boring and irrelevant or over gory paragraph.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) To mark my page, I'm usually in school so I tear off I little piece of paper from my homework :p

Doggy ears don't bring me nearly as much pain as folded covers! My little brother was laying on my new paperback and he rolled over the entire front cover was creased and I just about died!

message 49: by Katrina (last edited Jun 03, 2012 02:26AM) (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Oh, no! That's why I usually prefer hardcovers. Paperbacks just seem so vulnerable and so easily damaged. I feel like i have to work twice as hard to keep it in good condition and prevent everyone else from destroying it.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

At school, you'd think my books were made of diamonds by looking at the way I protect them. If it's raining I take off my jacket and wrap it around the book and let myself get soaked, just so long as my books are safe
