An writer has the beuty of creating their art. People may not like the painting but it is art. SO what if the ending is not going the way most of us would love to see. BUt we have all the other books that let us have it for such a short time. I found the book with so many turns and so many conspiracies that begin to have closure, and some about to end. Then she let us believe that some of the old relationships that we liked with sookie found a good ending. The question now will be so who will it be? I always thought maybe sooke will end as an angel, remember claudine said she could turn to angel after so many good deeds maybe sookie will turn to an angel.... What ever happens this book was exciting and this time this book envolved sookie's problems not everyone around her it was about time sookie had her own politics. it's just sad ending. BUt closure is coming we should be dreading that. this book was great. I liked it better than 11.

I have read Deadlocked and I loved it. I was simultaneously angry, crying, and happy all in two sentences on several occasions. I respect her writing, no matter how it ends. Her books were great to read and the fact that so many people have deep thoughts and feelings for the characters that she created, shows that they were a great read. I have, only a few times, seen so much difference and heated debates on stories. As long as no one is personally attacking Ms. Harris or the posters, I think that debate is wonderful. Everyone has a different opinion on how they would like it to end. Some of us are not going to like it. She can't please everyone!
I have a lot of respect for Ms Harris. I can't wait to read the next series. I hear that it has Quinn in them!(next series, not last book.) I hope that is true. No matter what, I look forward to the last and final book, though it will be bittersweet.
She is writing a new series? Cool! I personally think Sookie is going to end up with Sam at the end and I always saw her with him. He isn't undead and she could have a family, and being he is supe she isn't burdened with his thoughts.
Hadessephy wrote: "She is writing a new series? Cool! I personally think Sookie is going to end up with Sam at the end and I always saw her with him. He isn't undead and she could have a family, and being he is supe..."Yes, I really hope she ends up with Sam!
Honestly I can relate to people who get angry with an author because they didn't get the ending/pairing they wanted, I've been there myself. It's heart breaking to invest your emotions into a book and be disappointed in the end. BUT it is the author's decision to do whatever they want with the books. It's their creation after all! From personal experience (I was young and stupid) I can say that it's childish, stupid and kinda an overreaction to hate a book and it's author because you didn't get the pairing you wanted.
Charlaine Harris is a lovely writer and I've enjoyed all of her books very much so far (well, 10 was a let down, but 11 was great!) and I'm sure she has a great ending prepared for us.
I love her writing style and defiantly looking forward the new series, especially if it has Quin in it. Quin is awesome!
And I'm jumping the Sam bandwagon!
I enjoyed Deadlocked and found it to be more like her earlier books--which I fell in love with. Early on I would have liked to see Sookie get together with alcid, but now Sam makes more sense. Let's face it, unless Sookie let herself be turned--and therefore under the control of her master forever--a relationship with a vampire made no sense over the long term. Yeah, for a while I wanted her back with Bill, then I began to like Erik, and never liked her with Quinn, but unless she meets someone altogether new... Sam is the logical choice and always has been from book 1 if we had paid attention.
Hadessephy wrote: "She is writing a new series? Cool! I personally think Sookie is going to end up with Sam at the end and I always saw her with him. I always thought that she was happy with Bill for at least six months. I think that she is happier with Bill between the two. I like the fact that she left it hanging with Sam in the end. Maybe he gets his shot!
I'm still holding out for Bill. Sam is a good friend, but I don't see Sookie falling for him romantically. It's obvious she cares for him very much, though. But even though she has said she doesn't love Bill anymore, it seems like she still has feelings for the guy. Who wouldn't after the things he says and, more importantly, does for her. Actions speak louder than words. Go Bill!
Cindy wrote: "I'm still holding out for Bill. Sam is a good friend, but I don't see Sookie falling for him romantically. It's obvious she cares for him very much, though. But even though she has said she does..."she said "in love". But you are right, she could change her mind. But right now she is in love with Eric. Can't be in love with two guys, right! I have always wanted Sam but something smacked me in the face and deflated my hope for that. Strange thing is the realization came from me reading another story where the character was the brother and it reminded me of how Sam treated Sookie. So, he may end up being just her BFF. In that case, I will root for Bill! He has more than made up for things that he had no control over already and his birthday gift was very sweet and thought out! Oh and I loved his little fantasy! I am glad that he told her that he wouldn't change her even is she asked him too because he loves her.

I agree that the author deserves respect for her writing; if you don't care for the books, find another author. Kudos to you Amanda!

Agreed. It was nearly enough to make me swear off Goodreads! But its hardly worth for three bullies.
Hadessephy wrote: "She is writing a new series? Cool! I personally think Sookie is going to end up with Sam at the end and I always saw her with him. He isn't undead and she could have a family, and being he is supe..."Have you read any of her other series? The Harper Connelly series has been picked up by the Sci Fi Channel. There's also the Lily Bard series and the Aurora Teagarden series. They're all good.
The bullying has gotten really bad over on Amazon about Deadlocked that I won't post on those threads. Its the most active forum now. I had heard it's gotten insane. I read Deadlocked with a critical eye so I could catch the little things or hints if you will. There was a comment in the narrative about Sookie not being in love with Bill anymore and one about how she feels about Sam, it was a friendship thing. I don't see her ending up with Eric either. However, there was a scene in which Sookie was in a hurry to make out a will! The whole scene was very cryptic and there were no explanations whatsoever. Wouldn't it be funny if CH, in order to get back at her rabid fans, killed off Sookie in the end? Wow, what an ending that would be, lol. That would be just plain mean, but in the end CH does have the right to write whatever she wants, as she has told her fans time and time again. She has also warned people that Sookie will not get a conventional HEA as this series is not a romance. We have a year for everyone to bring it to a fever pitch. This should be interesting to sit back and watch the cage-fighting insue :)
It's to the point of being ridiculous and totally bizarre! People, these are fictional characters! CH has said from the beginning that she has always known how the series will end. Like most of the posters here, I think it'll be Sam.
Cheri wrote: "The bullying has gotten really bad over on Amazon about Deadlocked that I won't post on those threads. Its the most active forum now. I had heard it's gotten insane. I read Deadlocked with a critic..."I have never gone on the amazon forums. Yes, it is fictional and as long as you are complaining about the characters that is one thing but to make comments about posters or the author, that is overboard.
I like Sam and a lot of people are thinking that it could be him because of the cd use and what was said at the end about their convo. But that is really the only thing that has changed between the two of them. That and he had made her part owner, so now she doesn't have to see him as a boss.
As far as her saying that she is not in love with Bill. It is possible that she change her mind, if Eric leaves. Right now she is in love with Eric so she can't be in love with Bill. She did say once that she would never be with Eric the way that he is and she did end up with him. So anything can happen. The only reason that I don't think that Alcide has a chance is because of the fact of Kandace. But that may not happen, either. As far as HEA's go, it is anyone's game.
I am really curious as to what is going to happen in the next book. What was the weres reactions to Sookie using the cd and bringing Sam back to life? Did anyone fight Alcide to become leader? Also, is Felipe going to be more involved in the next book. He is in LA but as far as being in the beginning and Bill saying that Eric had been summoned to him, he wasn't really involved.
What do you guys think?
One thing, given that the whole concept began with CH developing the idea of Sookie dating a vampire named Bill, it seems odd she wouldn't want to come back around to that. Still, I think there's no future for Sookie in a relationship with a vampire over the long term since she will grow old and a vamp can't give her children. Who knows, maybe Sookie will decide she doesn't need a man to complete her but a partnership with Sam is enough.
I think its a stretch to say on one hand, she doesn't love Bill anymore, and then to think that her feelings for Bill are going to change again because Eric will be out of the picture. That's not going to happen overnight even if they did. But usually once you are out of love with someone it just doesn't show up again. I have never done that in my entire life. I have never gone back especially after falling in love and moving on with someone else. I took the partnership in the bar to mean that if something happened to Sam she could take over or at the very least be more financially set than earlier in the series. Also bars don't last forever, plus Sam is always dating were's of some kind. Its what they have in common. If Sam preferred humans we would have seen that or at least a mix of were/human dates. I think that Alcide has solidified his leadership, the were's in the pack were there to see what the punishment was for treachery and they seemed a little on the scared side. I was surprised he let the others go, but we will see. I think Felipe and the Queen were in on the set-up for Eric. He wants Eric out of there and this marriage pact was the way to go. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him, lol. He's up to no good! I have no idea where CH is going about Sookie using the CD, but I think that plotline has run its course. She used it and the fairies are gone for good all in one book. So in having Sookie use the CD and also putting the fairy line to bed spoke volumes. She is closing down plotlines so there are no questions left unanswered.
I felt like she was trying to close up a lot. Or at least start to.I disagree about the impossibility of falling back in love after moving on because I have seen it. There is still lingering feelings there already, it wouldn't set off much. She didn't say that she didn't love him but that she is not "in love" with him and she has moments were she feels the old attractions.Don't forget about Arlene and Rene. I know that he was sick but they did fall back in love. Don't get me wrong, your opinion is very valid I am not trying to argue with you.:) I just wanted to clarify my opinion.
Personally my favorite is Sam but I have been waiting a long time and I have almost given up hope. She did state that she wanted a book about a girl that falls in love with a vampire. That is what got her started. My daughter thinks that would be romantic if it went full circle..LOL she overheard me and a nurse talking. She hasn't even read the series.
I don't know what will motivate Sookie's relationship. I don't think that she is worried about the aging and both vamps have said that they won't change her. Her life time to them would seem like such a short time that I don't even know if that will matter. It would be whether or not they can watch her grow old without moving on.
As far as the weres, what if one of the rogues challenged. Could they do that, do you think?
I'm trying to remember the pack laws CH set up. Hmmm....I don't think someone from the outside can go for a challange for a position within the pack. I think?
I just got through re-reading the series and I can't seem to remember. I am going to look it up. That would be an interesting thing to happen in the next book! But what Alcide did wasn't necessary the same way that we read about either. So, maybe it could have happened? He told everybody that they were welcome to challenge but I don't think that the rogues were there yet.
I must have missed all the mean and awful reviews on this book everyone is referring to. It was a good read, but I ended up feeling kind of sorry for Sookie at the end. A bit of a Charlie Brown character now, never quite getting it right anymore, and I love the character CH created.
Amber wrote: "I felt like she was trying to close up a lot. Or at least start to.I disagree about the impossibility of falling back in love after moving on because I have seen it. There is still lingering feel..."
Can the rogues challenge? I think anyone can challenge, but it's a fight to the death so you have to be sure 1) you are strong enough to defeat the current Alpha and 2) you are Alpha enough to lead and control the pack. Alcid is very strong both physically and in that indefinable Alpha quality, so most won't challenge him. Assassination is a way to kill Alcid, but it's not a way to take over the pack. I am curious though as to why those psychopathic rogues were let go. Such loose ends usually come back to bite someone in the butt--possibly even literally in this case.
I am just as curious. I guess because they didn't break pack laws? What they had done was outside of the pack, outside of kidnapping Sookie, of course. I don't think that Alcide had a choice and I wonder what he thought about that decision?I was shocked at Eric's reaction, though, towards Jannalyn. I would have thought that he wanted to harm her himself so would need to be restrained. But he was interested. Poor Sam. He was probably not wanting to watch Jannalyn die and then she kills him.
Pauline, I agree. I love CH's characters.
Cheri, what is a Stackhouse author bible??
The companion was a very good read and there is a chance that she may expand it after Dead Ever After. I didn't hear that from her though.

I hope Quinn is in the next series... He is one of my favourites! :-)

I heard that he makes an appearance but I don't know if he will be any more than that. I liked Quinn, too and it was unfortunate that they couldn't work out. But probably for the best because he is going to be a daddy now!

This is purely speculation, but it has occurred to me that perhaps Eric's heart's desire was the CD (instead of Sookie) all along...although I don't believe he was aware of its existence or he would requested she use it on Felipe. Therefore, I expect Eric will blame Sookie for not using it to save their marriage and show his true colors once again. This opens the door for Bill to pick up the pieces and drama to ensue. I think we're in for a lot of surprises in the last book.
I think Sookie will end up with Sam its slowely been brewing all along and I think that would be perfect... I loved this book but i was a bit confused as it almost seemed like this was the last book.. is it? i cant seem to find anything conclusive about wheather it is or isnt.. :-/ x

It will be called Dead Ever After.(Unless she changes it from here to there.)

She has only stated as being "in love" with Bill. After she thought that he had died in the fire of Monroe, she thought that she was and stated it in LDID. I agree that Eric and Sookie love each other but I haven't found where she says that she is "in love" with him. IMO they are not fighing hard enough to keep each other in DL also making me think that.
I agree that Sam has been her Best friend but the only reason that she didn't pursue him was because he was her boss. She cared about what people thought about that. With that out of the way, she may find that she truly loves him and used it as an excuse because she was terrified that their friendship would end, if the break up. I don't see that happening though, if they do get together.
May two favorite possible HEA's are Sam and Bill.
I really liked the other books but I was just dissapointed with the lack of action or plot in this book. I feel like she is just keeping it going now to get money without giving us any substance to the books like the ones that were out before the series got really big. I feel that she will end up with Sam which i am not a big fan of but i think it is what fits her at this time in her life.
I loved it :D the ending was good , loved the way eric went off but i want sookie to end up with eric !!Have to say i hated quinn.
Hey great news guys!! Earlier it was said that Ms Harris was not going to put Quinn in DEA. Well she has popped on her site and informed us that he made an unexpected visit!!!

The future was heavy on her mind in Deadlocked, but so was the suffering she suffered because of her "gift" while growing up.
I have enjoyed each book in the series, including ones that so many have said they didn't like. Authors have to have a thick skin or they'll never keep trying to put their book out. I finished DeadLocked in 2 nights which is fast for me, and usually the Sookie books read like that for me. My biggest complaint would be that the books tend to be short, 250 - 300 pages, I like 350 - 400 pages, but the Sookie books flow well, move along, and usually the main core group is in all the books with others popping in here & there.
Missyb wrote: "With the way Sookie kept saying she didn't want to pass her "gift" to her child, I'm thinking children will not be in Sookie's future. I thought that mr. cataliades (sp?) was the reason she ended up telepathic, not anything genetic...
however, I did read somewhere on goodreads that CH had said that sookie won't have children, anyway...
It has to do with the essential spark. It is passed to all children in Adele's bloodline that has the essential spark according to Mr C. So she could pass the gift to her child, if she had one. So far it is only her and Hunter that have it.
Although I enjoyed the entire series, personally I thought the stories in the earlier books were tighter, and that later books were not quite as good. I don't mean that as an extreme criticism of the author--I still read every word. I really like the series. I don't care who Sookie ends up with as long as she ends strong. I also admit I will be disappointed if Eric goes along with the contract as a sort of second prize--not because I need to see a favorite pairing as a HEA, but because I personally find the contract concept to be demeaning (even though I know vampire values are different). Still, if CH goes that way, I'll just try to focus on the parts I like and enjoy the overall story.
If I didn't like the series and the characters so much, I would not care how the author chooses to leave my favorite people at the end. I guess we take the little bit of (subjective) "bad" along with the good.
I wonder how much the TV show is playing in the bad reviews?I enjoy the books far more than the HBO interpretation. (not saying I dislike the series, just like the books more)
The fact that Ms Harris has been writing this series for so long is testament to her love of the characters. If people are arguing so much about how things aren't turning out the way they 'should', it just means people also have a love for the characters. This is a good thing.
The bullying is a load of warm smelly stuff though.
Opinions are like belly buttons; almost everyone has one.
I'll be sad to see the series wind up, but I'm on the edge of my seat to see how things turn out.

Barry is a descendant of Mr. C. It's the demon blood that makes him telepathic. Hunter is also a descendent of the couple that drank the gift. I think the gift changes the genetics so that the potential is carried to all future generations--like the possibility of blue eyes.
Amber wrote: "[The contract] is about as demeaning as Eric tricking her into a marriage and expecting her to accept it."Oh Eric is a magnificent bastard. He's not a big misunderstood teddy bear. IMO, tricking Sookie was wrong, and Sookie just going along with that (and so much more) was wrong. I was disappointed in Sookie when she let herself be manipulated so much by Eric, and I will be disappointed in Eric if he allows himself to be played by a braless young queen who seem way too cozy with Felipe for my liking.
Eric may not be right for Sookie, but I still prefer him large and in charge, and not leashed. Also I miss the flirty humor and thoughtful generosity he exhibited in earlier books. I'm sure he's no longer sexy for a reason (and maybe that reason is Sam, maybe it's not). Sookie learning more about herself and what she wants long term would be great, no matter what else happens.
I agree, we all have such strong opinions because we care so much about the books. That indicates a good story teller.
