Kim (wwwkimabarnescom) | 1 comments I wrote "Construct Your Conversations:Strengthening Relationships" because I think it is important to let people know that it is not the words, but the impact of words on our feelings that negatively or positively affect our relationships. Why? Because we remember the emotion, the tone, and the attitude associate with those words.

Feelings are remembered even if the exact words are forgotten! Relationships are like an algebraic equation: what happens on one side affects the other; this is what we should remember when we are sending messages or responding to messages sent.

Like the military, we should have rules of engagement. Rules that establish positive interactions even if the discussion is heated or emotion-filled. We need to know how much force to use and when to use it, if at all. We tend to knee-jerk our responses instead of consciously constructing our conversations to build and support positive relationships relationship.
