If we're talking predictions I think there will be more sea travel as well. There has been some speculation on these boards about a female naval explorer that turns up in the character guide of Bitterblue even though she's only barely mentioned in the novel. Rumored to be the daughter of Magda.

And I noticed shortly after Bitterblue's release on her blog that when the tall ships were in Boston she was photographing and studying and mentioned something about research. So fingers crossed!

Heidi This is exciting. I would love to read more about all the characters. I'll keep my fingers crossed to. I'm just hoping we won't have to wait long.

Jhem In my opinion, I'm really disappointed with both main characters, Bitterblue and Saf. Yeah, she's the queen and a smart one but she can't stand own her own, she always rely on others, you know, the Po help me thing. And I thought that she is demanding in some ways, like when you recall when Katsa and Po have a fight and Katsa runaway to east. When she came back for Po and wanted to come on his travel, Bitterblue keep commanding her to go to east again. Didn't she now how Katsa truly miss Po?
On the other hand, Saf is such a not so heroic type. Like Po and Brigan. I think he's immature.
That's why I give this book a 4 stars instead of 5 like the two first books.

I agree with all your points except one thing - the queenly thing to do is NOT to put your friends' feelings ahead of what is necessary.

It doesn't matter how much Katsa misses Po, if this investigation is imperative then the negligent thing to do would be to allow Katsa to wait before going out.

Heidi I agree. When she became queen she had to put personal things behind and think about the big picture for her people.

Mary I think Saf was disapomting at times but all around he was a interesting chracter. I do not understnd why many people dont like the fact that Bitteerblue slept with him? If she hadnt wanted to then she would not of.

Allie Mcglone I loved Saf, personally. I thought the way he and Bitterblue's contrasting personalities fit together was great, and the problem was that he was hardly ever around. In fact, from the time he stole the crown to the time he and Bitterblue "slept together," he could hardly even be called a minor character, and when he did appear, there was no sort of love or intimacy between him and Bitterblue. She was even slightly condescending to him at times. When the romance picked up again, it began and ended suddenly. Saf's personality also went through drastic changes over the course of the book. I hope there is another book in which the two of them see each other again and get to know each other better, and maybe the spark will reignite. I hope so, because I actually loved the two of them together! If she 'ends up' with Giddon, and leaves things unfinished with Saf, I will be brokenhearted. I think there is definitely something there.

Allie Mcglone He was also always there for Bitterblue when he could be, except for when he was angry about her being the queen. I honestly thought that he could have acted better in that situation, but he's only human, and I liked that about him too. She told him a lot of lies, and he lost his trust in her, but who wouldn't have? I do think he could have been more developed as a character.

Saf wasn't so bad. I liked him.

Hallie Pursel I wish Saf and bitterblue had more romance and I wish the author didn't have Saf get so anry at bitterblue I think (by what I read about him) he would be more forgiving and he really liked bitterbl;ue.

Nuran Saf felt more like a first crush, rather than a first love, which is okay by me. First crushes don’t always become something more, in fact it’s rare if they do. I like that it was a realistic version of what can happen in a first relationship, instead of what most books are doing ‘the whole we’re each other soulmate, I’ve never been with anyone else and I get so depressed and I can’t function without you relationships’. Bitterblue was just unlucky and that can happen. Saf wasn’t too bad a guy, immature and childish yes, but he was there for her when he really needed her.

I think this is a really wise analysis, and probably what the author intended.

Kayla I ranted about him in my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

In a lot more angry words, I said that I hated the fact that Bitterblue and Saf slept together. Bitterblue's family friend just killed himself, and then Saf just lets her jump into bed with him? Cuddling is fine, whatever. But he actually let her make a decision about intimacy while she was in a state of grief? I don't understand that. He took advantage of Bitterblue's vulnerability in my eyes, and I hate him for it.

Rebecca May Christina wrote: "It felt like he took advantage of her, and I wish Po and Giddon had found out and made up as friends by punching Saf in the face.

I was expecting her to hook up with someone at some point (it is as Kristin Cashore book)but I was hoping for Giddon who was way nicer to her."

Bravo! That made me laugh, and I agree completely. :) *applauds*

I agree completely with this. It made me uncomfortable and showed me how immature they both were.

I agree with you. This book has emotional context only realistic books seem to have. Self harm. Suicide. Most fantasy books stick to swords and impaling. I mean...this book sees things other books don't. And I appreciate that.

Okay. (Goodreads is fucking with me, so I'm slightly pissed while I write this.)
I don't like Saf as a love interest. Saf is a perfectly good character. He hides secrets. While indignant at Bitterblue's, he seems to hide his own. Why is he so angry? Was he betrayed? It leaves questions which...disappear when Saf leaves. I honestly hated him leaving, but he had to. He never said he was going to stay. Saf as a love interest isn't the best. But. In love, you go through the bad to get to the good. And I think Saf is one of those crazy, wild teenage love interests. The flighty one. The one with secrets. I think Saf held more secrets than Bitterblue did. And I just...wonder why he kept these. And I wonder...
