Anyone else disappointed with Saf??

On the other hand, Saf is such a not so heroic type. Like Po and Brigan. I think he's immature.
That's why I give this book a 4 stars instead of 5 like the two first books.

I agree with all your points except one thing - the queenly thing to do is NOT to put your friends' feelings ahead of what is necessary.
It doesn't matter how much Katsa misses Po, if this investigation is imperative then the negligent thing to do would be to allow Katsa to wait before going out.

Saf wasn't so bad. I liked him.

I think this is a really wise analysis, and probably what the author intended.

In a lot more angry words, I said that I hated the fact that Bitterblue and Saf slept together. Bitterblue's family friend just killed himself, and then Saf just lets her jump into bed with him? Cuddling is fine, whatever. But he actually let her make a decision about intimacy while she was in a state of grief? I don't understand that. He took advantage of Bitterblue's vulnerability in my eyes, and I hate him for it.

I was expecting her to hook up with someone at some point (it is as Kristin Cashore book)but I was hoping for Giddon who was way nicer to her."
Bravo! That made me laugh, and I agree completely. :) *applauds*

I agree completely with this. It made me uncomfortable and showed me how immature they both were.

I agree with you. This book has emotional context only realistic books seem to have. Self harm. Suicide. Most fantasy books stick to swords and impaling. I mean...this book sees things other books don't. And I appreciate that.
Okay. (Goodreads is fucking with me, so I'm slightly pissed while I write this.)
I don't like Saf as a love interest. Saf is a perfectly good character. He hides secrets. While indignant at Bitterblue's, he seems to hide his own. Why is he so angry? Was he betrayed? It leaves questions which...disappear when Saf leaves. I honestly hated him leaving, but he had to. He never said he was going to stay. Saf as a love interest isn't the best. But. In love, you go through the bad to get to the good. And I think Saf is one of those crazy, wild teenage love interests. The flighty one. The one with secrets. I think Saf held more secrets than Bitterblue did. And I just...wonder why he kept these. And I wonder...

If we're talking predictions I think there will be more sea travel as well. There has been some speculation on these boards about a female naval explorer that turns up in the character guide of Bitterblue even though she's only barely mentioned in the novel. Rumored to be the daughter of Magda.
And I noticed shortly after Bitterblue's release on her blog that when the tall ships were in Boston she was photographing and studying and mentioned something about research. So fingers crossed!
