I enjoyed a wonderful author event last night with the terrific Paolo Bacigalupi at Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville, on tour for his new YA novel, The Drowned Cities, a novel set in the world of his previous novel Shipbreaker. He gave a very interesting talk on his genesis and development as a writer, read a selection from the new novel, answered lots of questions, then signed everything the audience wished. A very engaging young man, and someone I had hoped to see at an event someday. Photos here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...

Had you already read his other books, John? He's on my radar right now, but I haven't had any first-hand reviews of his books yet. I just picked up Ship Breaker as an ebook (on sale for $3 at bn.com!).

I had read and was very impressed by The Windup Girl; I enjoyed Ship Breaker, and I just managed to get myself a 2nd printing (couldn't afford a 1st; the 2nd was pricey enough) of his collection Pump Six and Other Stories. Got them all autographed!
