Julie | 1 comments I think it was a female author, defiantely a stand alone novel set in the UK.

A 15 year old girl mysteriously disappears after an music audition and never returns home. That morning she has a disagreement with her mother about her weight but it's never really explained.

A few years later her brother and father see her on a television programme about the homeless. The father tracks down the new reporter and they visit the area it was filmed (maybe London).

The father spends a lot of time on the streets searching for his daughter, befriends a young homeless boy who was kicked out over something to do with his brother raping a young girl but for whatever reason he took the blame and the parents didn't want him to return home.

Eventually they learn that the missing daughter is the girlfriend of a gang leader known as 'The Pagan'.

It has a somewhat blurry ending, the father doesnt' reconcile with the daughter, she learns from the young boy that he knows the father is looking for her but the gang is attacked by another gang and the father gives up the search. A few days later the phone rings and there is silence. This is where the book ends and you sort of presume it's the daughter calling.

If someone can give me the name of this book it would be really appreciated.
