Carolyn Smith | 34 comments Random side comment: the "writer's echo" as a bad thing, in particular the references to obsidian eyes, keep making me think of the Odyssey--where that is a standard form. Athena is always referred to as "grey-eyed Athena" and so forth. I can see that here it isn't supposed to be a form the way the poetry of the Odyssey is, but it's amusing that my mind keeps jumping there.

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments I might be the odd one, but did anyone else feel that Chaz was actually the alpha (if possibly one with PTSD)? Sully for all his alphaness and jedi mind tricks was pretty insecure and needing her validation rather than the usual other way around. Chaz seemed less interested in validating herself with him as knowing the truth and knowing he wasn't a threat.

I found the book to be sci-fi with a splash of romance, but most of what I read is sci-fi so I was just fine with that.

That is a really interesting perspective, I didn't see it that way before. I still thought that Sully was alpha in the way that he basically made all of Chaz's choices for her without telling her or bothering to explain anything. Everyone in the book seemed to be an odd mix of contradictions though.

One thing that I really, really enjoyed about the book was that the main characters were 18 year old virgins and the 30yr olds who lust after them. It was about people who were older, (supposedly) more mature people who had time to make their mistakes and learn from them. I liked that. As I get older, I am getting tired of reading about 17-19 yr olds falling in love. They just seem way too young now lol.

I finished the book last night, and it ended way better than it began. I probably won't continue that series, but the sample of another book at the end seemed pretty entertaining and more in the style of the last third of Gabriel's Ghost. (Wait, why was it called Gabriel's Ghost? They referred to the ship as a ghost more often than anything else.)

Jessica | 27 comments I'm halfway through...it's a fun/easy read...but...I don't know...the switch so far between "I'm so scared of you, you handsome scary bad boy rouge, you" to "come sleep in my bed, this is super!" Seemed to come out of nowhere...maybe I just need more wine.

I agree. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Chaz was 35 with loads of life experience behind her.

And I think it's called "Gabriel's Ghost" because he was supposed to be dead, so when she first sees him it's like seeing a ghost? I don't know. I kind of wanted to kill him myself for calling her a bitch all the time. I guess it's supposed to be a term of endearment, but I found it totally grating.
