Talk about the movie, the book, the things you hated about the movie or the things you liked about it! Hey, has anyone seen the movie yet? I haven't and I kinda want to but I just wanna know if it was any good?

What were your highlights from the book? Your favourite scenes? Do you think it could have been improved?

Another question - Who cried when Rue died in the book? Personally, I got all teary eyed when Rue died.

Is the movie as good as the book? Could it have been better? Or was this one of those cases where the movie was better than the book?

I heard that Rue dying in the movie was really sad. My best friend cried when she saw it. As far as I know, she didn't cry when Rue died in the book. Did you think so?

Seriously would LOVE to hear what you all think.

Jacy (jazabell) | 73 comments I cried several times throughout the trilogy. I think I cried the hardest during "the Rue episode" in the first book and at the climax of the last one. I haven't seen the movie, but I want to!

I read this a while back and it was rather sad. I haven't gotten to reading Book 2 or 3 yet though.

Rue dying was expected... I know when I began reading the book I realised shortly after that Rue was going to die, but it was still really sad. Not so sad that I'd be crying, but sad enough.

OH MY GOSH!!! You HAVE to read the 2nd and 3rd book! THEY ARE SO AMAZING!!! But in my opinion I didn't really like the 3rd book. It didn't really make a lot of sense really. But you will LOVE the 2nd one. It's REALLY good!

Ann Lee (goodreadscomannlee) | 18 comments what is so amazing is having your book made into a movie I wonder, while writing did she ever imagine that this book would have such a following

Most authors don't expect their books to be made into movies, which makes it all the more special in my opinion.

Dana (littlemissbooklover) i absouletley adore the hunger games. i went to see the movie, but personally it wasnt as good as the book-not enough emotion, passion and LOVE. i cried while reading rue dying but not watching it. they changed alot of it in the movie which was quite upsetting.

I can't say, I haven't watched the Hunger Games yet. I'll get to that eventually. It's on my long list of things I still have to do.

However from what I heard, some people were put off by Rue having darker skin... (If I offended anyone, I am really really sorry). What I want to know is if you were slightly put off by it and how you pictured Rue when you were reading the book.

Daisy | 136 comments I am pretty positive that I pictured her as a dark girl. But even if I didn't I would have accepted it straight away as sometimes I miss details or picture them different ways for some unknown reason. It's casting peoples jobs to cast actors that fit the description of characters as much as possible, so I can't imagine why they would cast Rue as a dark girl if she was white.

I also really didn't enjoy the movie that much :/

Okay - Is there a reason why you didn't like the movie that much. I have a friend who watched the movie before she read the book and she was constantly asking why the book was so different.

For example, in the book, Madge gives Katniss the mockingjay badge. Whereas in the movie, an old lady from the market gives it to her... See the difference?

Anyways, when I was reading the Hunger Games... I missed details. I pictured Rue as being white, but that is because I skipped a lot of details. And I don't with Rue being a dark girl... seriously, I still love the character as much as I did before.

Daisy | 136 comments Of course there is a reason why I didn't like it. Haha. I didn't like, well don't like, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, I don't think that they had good on screen chemistry, it felt awkward to me. The part where he was telling her about the first day of school when he first saw her and she sang, it was flat in the movie. In the book it was so sweet! And just amazing, because he was so sweet, but it didn't have the emotion in the movie for me.

I also felt that Katniss was portrayed too weak in comparison to in the book. The two main parts where this comes through for me is at the reaping and when she first goes into the arena. At the reaping in the movie she is freaked out about Prim being called out, in the book she is so confident that Prim isn't going to get picked (because she only has one name in the bowl) that she isn't even paying attention. It takes her a minute to even realise that Prim was called out. And in the movie before she goes into the arena she is totally panicking about it.

I understand that these are realistic reactions for a person to have, but Katniss is an expert at hiding her emotions to protect her sister. Her whole mindset while she's in the games is that she has to win so that she can get back to Prim, so she isn't panicking that much because she is just like trying to be in the zone. I did like Jennifer as Katniss, I just don't think that the director or whatever got her to portray the character right.

I liked all of the actors except for Peeta. They had to cut Madge out for like budget reasons. She wasn't essential to the story line, so her not being in it didn't change anything. You can't tell in the movie, but there is also only like 20 tributes rather than 24. Those kinds of changes don't bother me. You have to make sacrifices when it comes to adapting a book into movie.

It is a little strange that she was asking why the book was different from the movie, the more appropriate question would be why is the movie so different from the book.

But yeah, anyway. There were probably a few other things that bothered me. But these were the main ones, and they annoyed me the most because the characters are always a large part of the story. And I don't think the two main characters were portrayed properly.
