message 368: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments haha thnx!! glad to join u all! i loved lizzie so much and how she sassed lady catherine and mr. collins i started laughing so hard. mr. darcy was just plain amazing even though i was like meh in the beginning idk if u remember that one seen where mr. darcy was trying to confess his love to lizzie and he didnt know what to say so hes like um nice charming house....and later he bolts out? i thought that was soooo cute. i read a teen version prom and prejudice so i sorta knew the plot with wickham.

lizzies mom drove me crazy....like she was such a matchmaker and the girls were such flirts it just drove me insane. at last lizzie and jane were pretty sensible *sigh*

I need to reread P & P, it's been like a year since I read it last. It is the best JA book I've read. I haven't read Persuasion or Lady Susan... but I'm betting those won't even come close to P&P. :) P&P has earned a place in my favourites list.

message 373: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
I love Persuasion! But P&P is my favourite!!

message 374: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I have some Jane Austen books on my Kindle. I should really get around to reading them...

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book am I the only one in the group who is not a fan of Pride and Prejudice? It's okay if I am I'm just curious lol.

I just didn't care for it at all.

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
@Cari: Persuasion was REALLY good; not as good as P&P, but I really enjoyed it. ;)
@Carlin: YES! you must read them!!! :D start with P&P. ;)
@Kim: I want to say there was someone else who mentioned not liking Jane Austen..how? I have NO idea! lol ;D have you seen the 2005 and 1995 versions? :)

LOL o soph. ;)

well have you SEEN it Kim? ;) lol

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book I haven't seen any of the movies, no.

but the movie won't change why I don't like it. I just can't wrap my head around that kind of relationship and the relationship is consistent in the movie (from what I hear) to what it is in the book.

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
.......oh well. lol ;D have you seen Emma or Sense and Sensibility? maybe you'd like those?

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book I haven't. I'm not sure if I'm that interested, but I might give them a try someday :-)

message 386: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments what what...stumbles mid step...u dont like the plot?? mr. darcy is the ULTIMATE guy in my opinion oh sigh ur opinion

The 1995 CBC version of Mr Darcy is the best. :)

Aerykah | 2071 comments Cari wrote: "The 1995 CBC version of Mr Darcy is the best. :)"

Love how you put that! ;)

The 1995 P&P is the BEST!!! :D

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book yeah see that's it Caro I don't think Mr Darcy is the ultimate guy - quite the opposite really. I don't find it attractive for a man to speak poorly of a woman, or say demeaning things about her, to others and within ear shot of her. I also don't like his superiority complex. I get that it's the era. And I know he "changes" in the end but he's not the kind of guy for me. And even the fact that after they profess their love for each other they're yelling at each other? That's not my idea of a healthy relationship. so yeah, I'll pass on the likes of Mr. Darcy. :-)

and I'm not dissing anyone else who does like him beause I know that I am in a very tiny minority of women who don't like him, I'm just explaining why I don't care for the book, and why I don't think Mr. Darcy is the ultimate guy :-)

message 393: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
:'( oh Kim. I won't try and argue this with you but one thing I will say to that little speech - Darcy didn't realise she was in ear shot! ;D
Which is showed well in the film! Which is worth watching anyway - I have many (unfortunately) friends who dislike the book but like the film!

And as to the other debate, I love both film and series and BOTH are worth watching! Both Darcy's are great!!!

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book LOL! that's semantics and making excuses for poor behavior. ;-)

Like I said, I'm fine if people love the book, and Mr. Darcy. I simply don't. It's just a matter of preference and choice that's all :-)

Each to their own, each to their own!

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book exactly :-)

message 397: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments Idk there's just something attractive about Darcy...now that I've seen the movie I'm starting the book!!

message 398: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
GO CARO!
When you have read the book you will realise how much they had to leave out of the film due to time constraints and then you should watch the 1995 mini series to see just how accurate it is! (they leave like NOTHING out and it's great to have the entire book (pretty much) brought to life!

message 399: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
I think there is something very attractive and appealing about him as well!!

message 400: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments Yes agreed!! Yay I love agreeing with ppl I have to say I never realized that it was such an intricate plot....plus it's not a shallow chick flick there r pretty deep themes running through the book. P and p is free on iBooks!!
