Not so much in Austin. Up near Dallas it can get nasty once in a while in the winter. The problem is they are not prepared for it: don't know how to drive on ice or snow; not real means of clearing the roads--they use sand, which causes its own hazards once the roads dry.

Austin is a beautiful city. Are your sons attending The Univesity? Hook 'em, Horns!

Not my boys, but two of my cousins (Florida) have their "kids" in grad school at the Univ. of Texas. My oldest son got a great promotion from his employer to move to Austin. He really likes it – it sounds like Boston, where he graduated from college.

Heeey!!!! I've missed you!!!! How are you?? I'm doing great!!!

message 861: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been doing ok. Kinda went into a bit of a depression; had a really bad breakup with my boyfriend of four years and just kinda retreated into myself for a while. But I'm doing a bit better, and have been dying for some socialization, even if it's online.

Got through the holidays alright, I guess. The stress of working at a toy store during Christmas is starting to wear off... only now, there's like no hours because we're out of season. I can't win, I guess, but at least I have amassed a crap ton of vacation hours that I can put into my paycheck. That's a plus.

Still no internet at the house; we actually had to get new heating and plumbing. It's way too cold here in Jersey. I am so done with winter and so done with snow. I hope it's warmer wherever you are, Alice. Finally had a little free time to run down to my local coffee shop and just set myself in the window and relax with some chai tea. I don't want to think about work later, but I'll deal with that when the time comes.

How has everything been with you? I'm sorry for disappearing like I did. I'll be a good girl and participate this time, I promise. XD

Aw, I'm really sorry to hear about your breakup. :/ Well we're always glad to have you on here! =D
Haha- oh wow! which toy store? that would be crazy! xD Hey, that IS a plus!! :D Do something fun, right!? :)) buy some books. ;) lol
So are you still checking your internet at Duncan Donuts? :) Brr!! xP It's actually pretty cold right now, but not too freezing and it's starting to get warmer. Ah- sitting in the window of a coffee shop with something hot to drink and relaxing sounds so nice!!! ^_^ Yes- there is a time for everything! ;)
Haha- you do that!! ;D I'm doing really well! Had a great Christmas with my family and am enjoying the New Year and am totally ready to find out what it holds! :D Getting tons of reading in too while I'm not super busy. :)

Aerykah | 2071 comments Hey there, Carlin! :)
I think people do so much random chatting on all the other threads that they just don't come on this one much. But, really, I don't the group has been all that active here lately anyway.

message 864: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Yea, we have like 3 threads that people comment. But I've missed this one- so thanks for raising it up again! ;)

message 865: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha, no problem! I feel like since I {still} haven't really read any regency era romance {nor been to Ireland...}, I can't really relate and take part in a conversation on those topics. Random chat, I can do. I need to get back into reading more, now that I have more free time to myself. I was doing some on and off roleplaying in another group, but aside from that, I haven't been doing much. Been in a bit of a funk. I want to start taking charge of my life now and make some changes happen, because I'm super bored otherwise! ^^

Yeah, I was at Dunkin before {I'm using my phone app now, why is why I'm typing so slow} and that's somewhat been my main source of internet. I do have limited mobile hotspot capabilities on my phone now that I've taken over the bill for myself, so every now and then I try to connect that way. I just haven't had much motivation to do much else than watch Netflix on my phone {Have either of you ever watched Once Upon A Time? Robert Carlysle is amaziiinnnng~} lately. I need another hobby. xD

message 866: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments Well, I haven't been to Ireland either (I think most of us can say that, lol!). And I really don't read a lot of Regency books either, though I have read some.

I don't think I've seen Once Upon A Time... I'll have to look it up & see if I have or not. It does sound really familiar.

message 867: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, girls. :) I really should start being more active on here. I mostly spend my time at the group I moderate.

How have you all been lately?

Aerykah | 2071 comments Cari wrote: "No college plans, Aerykah? :)"

No, I've never really had any desire to go to college. While I was in high school, I watched most of my sister's college correspondence course videos with her... that's enough college for me. ;)

message 880: by [deleted user] (new)

Finally out of work {Now everyone is probably asleep... xD}

Once Upon A Time is really good but it does get really involved and confusing at times. My aunt and I got into a thirty minute debate on a timeline of events. It's a mix of Fairy Tales and the modern world, a lot of back and forth flashbacks between the fairy tale world and what goes on in the modern world. Basically the evil queen from Snow White puts a big curse on the fairy tale world and they get transported to this modern town where they don't have any recollection of who they actually are, and the only one who can make them remember is Snow White's daughter. It's got a lot of interesting twists on the classic characters you THINK you know and love. :3

I wasn't asleep... but I was reading a good book. ;)

OH! Isn't that a TV series? I think I saw a couple episodes of that at my sister's house a few weeks ago. It looked pretty interesting, but I came into it right in the middle & was having some trouble figuring out what was going on. ;P

It is, and it's really good! Like I said, it gets really involved. I highly recommend watching it from the beginning (a Netflix marathon is actually exactly what me and my family are doing right now). The characters and the worlds just suck you right in. At first, there's a clear division of good and evil, but come season 2, the lines get a little blurry. It also involves Disney characters (which explains the awesome graphics budget) like Pongo, Jimminy Cricket, Captain Hook~

message 883: by Aerykah (last edited Feb 01, 2014 12:16PM) (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments I might have to watch that then... I remember my sister & bro-in-law said they were enjoying it.

message 884: by [deleted user] (new)

Definitely. I got Netflix after our friend showed us the show, and it has MORE than paid for itself by now!

message 886: by [deleted user] (new)

If anybody else has Netflix, feel free to suggest some titles for me. I've got nothing better to do these days. Hehehehe. Been watching Ghost Hunters International mostly, though I know I need to get back to watching Deadliest Catch. But if there's a movie that I MUST SEE, please let me know.

message 887: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethnovak) Sorry, don't have Netflix. I just watch a bunch of old movie online.

message 888: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, lovelies. How is everyone doing?

message 889: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments Hey there, Carlin! I'm doing well. Been doing some reading & writing today, which is always great! ;) About to go do some ironing, though... which isn't so great. ;P
How about you?

message 890: by [deleted user] (new)

I have never in my life even touched an iron. The very thought of ironing intimidates me. It's like one of those things I feel I have to eventually learn how to do to survive adulthood if and when I leave my godparents' house...

I'm doing well, I suppose, though I don't know how I'll feel tomorrow. Broke my shovel today clearing the patio. Snow has proven to be a formidable opponent. My back will probably kill me tomorrow, and given it's Valentine's Day (or Singles Awareness Day for me, I guess) and I have to work, I don't know how I'm going to survive. First year in four or five years I'm not looking forward to the holiday... I think I'm going to need a lot of ice cream to get through the day.

message 891: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments I learned how to iron about 10 years ago... Even my brothers (sorta) know how to iron. ;P

Hope you're back doesn't give you too much trouble. :/ I can't say I've ever had to shovel snow... Not that we've never had enough to shovel, but my brothers always take care of stuff like that.
Hm... singles awareness day for me too, I guess. Though I've never really cared too much either way about Valentine's Day.

message 892: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope you never have to shovel snow. I'm tiny and the snow was very heavy this time. I tend to not feel the pain until the next day.

We also had a random thunderstorm or something. I'm just sitting, reading, and there's a bright flash of light, then a crack of thunder so loud that the house shook. I thought it was an earthquake at first; I did a whole duck and cover maneuver. Weird weather we're getting. >_<

message 893: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
HEY CARLIN!!! I don't like ironing either- I don't think I'm good at it, anyways!! xP lol
Aw, sorry the snow is being difficult for you! :P Hope you feel better!
Haha- SAD for me too, although I prefer to call it "Hug a Singles day" haha ;D Cause, ya know, I feel happy for the couples/married people, but everyone else can enjoy it too, so they deserve hugs and chocolate! ^_^ lol @Aery yea, me neither... it's not a big deal for me. :P
Oooh shake-the-house-thunder is so weeeeird!! hahaha
I've been reading, blogging, and searching for quotes today. :)

message 894: by [deleted user] (new)

I need to do more of that, searching for quotes, but I think in my mindset I'm only going to find all the angry heartbreak ones. xD Its been too long since I went on a quoting spree.

message 895: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
I am obsessed with quotes! :) there are so many great ones- I find all mine on pInterest. :) I find them and then write them in my quote book and I'm now filling my second one. :)

message 896: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooooh, that sounds like a good idea.

message 897: by Aerykah (last edited Feb 13, 2014 09:34PM) (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments @Carlin- I hope so too! ;)
Ooh! I love thunderstorms!! :D Shake-the-house thunder is so totally awesome! :)

@Alice- Going quote hunting, huh? Do you plan to share any of the good ones you find here in this group? ;)
I'm going a bit accent crazy today... I've been watching YouTube videos about accents. These are my favorites...
-- Louisiana Cajun -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeR7Lj...
-- 30 Accents by Zariya -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37IT0L...
-- Speak Boston -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4OPmx...

Yikes! I don't think I sound anything like my normal self after watching all those videos! :P

message 898: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Carlin it is totally fun!
Aery I'll have to share some- if I shared them all though you might kick me out there's so many! xD
NICE I'd seen the 30 accents one before. some of them are really fun! :D

message 899: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooh, speaking of accents, I need to find a cute guy with a French accent. I love Irish and Scottish accents best but a character I'm creating for a story is French and I need to get into the accent. XD

I should really put all the notebooks I have to use. But then again, I hate my handwriting so much. It's horrible. I'd love to make a quote journal, but I'd keep tearing out the pages.

message 900: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments Sorry, but I don't think I can help you out with that one, Carlin. ;)

I kept what you might call a quote journal for a while, then I started putting the quotes on my blog, so I don't use it much anymore. I have what I call variable handwriting... I like to change it just for fun. ;) So people who flip through my notebooks might think that more than one person was doing the writing. ;P
