This book rather divided readers. Most felt that it dealt very dramatically with issues such as family ties, friendship, bullying and domestic violence. Some found the swearing hard to take, others that it soon became part of the character's 'voice'.
Words like genius, accessible, challenging and beautifully written were used although one reader gave up and one persisted but found it angry and disliked it.
Six people read the book and all but one of those would have given it 3 acorns but it had to be awarded 2 as one did not give it a recommendation. One reader abandoned the book. It's the very highest 2 acorns we have given.
A Highly Recommended Read.

Good choice :)

When I wrote the book, even as I was writing, I knew it would polarise people. This world is made all the better for a dissenting voice, so I value the views of those the book didn't sit well with just as much as those that loved it.
Finally, just want to thank the Oak Tree Review for choosing AWM as one of this months books, and if anyone has any specific questions they want me to answer, just fire away :)
All the best,
Ian

I have only been a member of this site for a few days and am a real "newie" at this sort of thing. I have downloaded this book and am looking forward to it.
Hope to start reading this one tomorrow.
Alex

I think it's excellent and I'm glad it was chosen.

Roddy Doyle is a good comparison, I think.
You know sometimes you read a book and you know it's gonna stick with you forever?
That's what Abide With Me has done to me. A great book.

Ohh I've got my first question for the live event :)

It is a book that had touched me like not many others and I find it very difficult to put into words.

The thing with books is they either reach out to you in some way or they don't. Unfortunately we don't have much choice in what appeals to us Jud and at least you can recognise positive aspects of the book.
Emma, thats why I need to get it in paperback! Think my mum will love it too.

I have 2 copies. 1 to lend out, which is signed. The 2nd has a lovely message from Ian so goes no-where!!!

It will happen in this thread http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...
If you have any questions that Ian can have in advance to prepare some answers, it would be really helpful. Please email them to me using the private message option :)
See you all on the night !
